Although with Wing F shut until the end of the year, Qantas F is probably on par with Wing J for low gate numbered departures (ie all qantas flights)

hmmm... if the QF F lounge was any good then it might actually fill up... I've never seen that. The only thing it has going for it is that it is usually empty. Even if they just put a bit more oomph into their waiting staff it would be better instead of me having to go through semaphore like contortions just to get their attention for a glass of cheap champagne...

(they are friendly enough - just not attentive in the way they are in the CX F lounge)

On Flyertalk, TheRealBabushka has noted the following pertinent information on this QF page:

Access to Partner airline lounges

. . .

Qantas Club Members travelling between Australia and the UK on Qantas and British Airways codeshare services, or connecting to or from these services on British Airways can access the British Airways Terraces, Executive and Galleries Lounges. Access to the British Airways Lounge in New York is also available for Qantas Club Members travelling on the QF108. We are currently working with British Airways on the recent changes to their lounge access policy.

First, I think this is the first time we've seen "Galleries" mentioned on the QF pages. Second, I find the wording interesting: "their lounge access policy". Although it doesn't say 'working with BA on their recent changes' (ie. I find the placement of "their" to be interesting) it does seem to indicate the issue has been caused by BA.

Isn't this access basically what had been reported before from the Speedbird club.

What happens to someone originating in London (not connecting from a QF service?)

Looks like it access is not reinstated to what it was until BA changed the practice recently of allowing Qantas Club members access to their lounges.

Lounge access does not include stopovers in London, or other OW carriers arriving in LHR and then connecting to BA flights in Europe and to the USA.

In reply to my email enquiries, a QFF representative told me over the phone that there will be no further improvements in access to BA Galleries lounges.

This is most disappointing.

If this is the final position. It looks like it's no longer worth keeping Qantas Club access. And as i don't think I'll ever make Gold the way I flight at the moment, I'll have to look at whether it is worth staying with Qantas Frequent flyers. There are certainly a lot of cheaper airlines that fly between Europe and Australia. Singapore Airlines or Emirates could be getting my custom from now on.

Yay? I think? Fortunately I hadn't told Dr FM that things had changed, so I don't need to tell her that they are back again. So she can fly with QF to London, and immediately connect to IST with BA and go to the T5 Galleries lounge?

It would seem so. I'm guessing you will need to keep the inbound boarding pass to present at the Galleries Lounge.

but if she is flying back from IST to LHR will she get access to BA lounge in IST (assuming they have their own lounge there)?

Yes - because it says passengers connecting to or from Qantas or BA code share services will also have access to Galleries Terraces and Exec Club. As there is no Terraces or Exec Club at LHR, this implies those lounges are in other cities.

So leaving IST, provided you don't have a stopover in LHR, you fit within the rules.

I must say with rules like this I am happy that I am WP and can confidently say I will never bother with QC if ever I fall below SG

It would be nice if BA/QF could follow the lead of CX and issue a lounge invite (or simply print on the boarding pass) the appropriate lounge.

This could be picked up from the PNR so a pax boarding in IST, with an immediate connection in LHR could have 'Terraces' printed on the ex-IST and 'Galleries' printed on the ex-LHR boarding passes.

She is planning to stop in London on the way back (in fact has planned her trip around being able to go to T5 on the way there, so my heart sort of sank when I thought rules had changed!). So she won't be able to access the lounge in IST on the way back - we used it in 2009 and it is very basic, so not a big loss.

She'll be able to use it before the flight back to Oz, of course.
