Does someone have an opinion on this: until last year most of my flying was between Europe and the US so earned and used some respectable miles on Delta's and United's programmes. Since returning to Oz, I've been flying to Japan almost monthly and achieved WP status though despair of being able to use my few 100k points from what people have said about Qantas seat availability.
Anyway, to the question: most of leisure travel will now be to either Asia or Europe so are there recommendations for airlines and FF programmes? I still have about 90k points in United's Mileage Plus, so better to build on that with airlines like Singapore or branch out and fly/join new schemes? Thanks

Well the first question I'd ask is what are your goals frequent flyer wise?
  • are you seeking to retain WP, or hit a QFF lifetime level?
  • do QF or other Oneworld airlines fly to your regular destinations?
  • If not, are they adequately served by a Star Alliance carrier? (In this case, might be worth looking at BMI's instant silver offer to get you on the way)

Just a few possible questions to consider when looking at an additional freq flyer program for your wallet.

Good q's. This assignment in Japan should continue for a year or two so that should take care of retaining platinum or at least gold. Looked at United's partners for Asia and it's not bad: Asiana, Singapore, Thai, etc. Given what FF posters say about using QF FF miles I think I'll build up United Miles again as I've never had any trouble using them
