[-]Sign up here [this link] and you'll get Diamond Club Silver right off the bat.[/-]

Not much across the alliance for *S (can't even use J check-in across the alliance), but if you credit to BD you will get a status loading on your account. If your BD*S account is translated to a LH M&M FTL account, you'll still get an Executive Bonus and miles won't expire until you lose your FTL status.

Also, for those of you perhaps wanting to build a BD*G account, this gives you a head start, since you won't need to get 16k first to get BD*S before building up for BD*G.

*** As advised by anat0l this offer is now closed. ***

I just found this and signed up, then rushed over here to share. I should have known someone else would be more on the ball! :p

I could be wrong, but I thought *A Silver also gives you free luggage on UA & CO domestic in the US?

Does anyone else get annoyed that after earning status with an airline, even lowly silver status, the airline then gives it away to anyone who asks? Seems a strange way to reward loyalty.

Yes they do.

It doesn't annoy me as much as airlines which fire sell truckloads of miles and then hands out cross-alliance premium awards like water. Let alone airlines which generally hand out awards and upgrades like water.

I just applied for this and the account says Silver! Just a quick question. Will they send out luggage tags and card as well? Can always use bag tags as mine always seem to disappear

I assume they will send out a pack. If not, you can request one again later, I believe at nil cost (but don't take my word for it).

Mind you, it may take a while.

Thanks anat0l for this,

just joined up myself. I hope to get to use it over the next few months

regards,

Stewey

I never got a pack after earning status, even after calling to request one.

Nein. Only US Airways offers an extra bag to Star Alliance silvers.

UA baggage table: United Airlines - U.S./Canada checked baggage fee exceptions
CO baggage allowances: Continental Airlines - Checked Baggage
US baggage table: US Airways | Baggage policies

CO and UA (about to merge, of course) recently revised their policy so that *A Silver (or *S for short) only receive one bag for free on wholly North American itineraries. (It used to be 2).

US still offers up to 2 for free.

Without status at all, if you fly in Economy you would be charged even for the first bag you checked in. In each case, the cost of the first bag is $25 (may be slightly cheaper if paid in advance).

Sorry, who? Oh that's right, the site which seems to rip off all our content and information without any credit or consideration

You couldn't believe they could just hand out *Silver status a couple of weeks after I joined Diamond Club?

It always happens to some poor undeserving soul. Try calling them up and asking nicely for Silver under this promo - stranger things have happened :)

I don't have any plans on flying BD anytime soon which would make getting a status match harder.

The plan it to book business class awards which in theory will provide lounge access and a much more generous luggage allowance.

Re: Instant bmi Diamond Club Silver [not any more]

Looks like the s*** has hit the fan and they had a decision to make.

However, I'm writing to you because unfortunately the link you used to join was an exclusive by invitation only offer and as noted in our terms and conditions was non transferable.

So if you haven't got the email already prepared to have your short lived silver taken away. Ah well. I'm trying to find an email address for this Keeley Downing chap and let him know this OWE who had some flying DOM in UK and the EU soon was quite seriously looking at some of their routes. Guess they're doing financially well over on the other side of the world and don't need my business. How about they run a legit status match program like the folks from that 'other' alliance.

How intriguing.

The match link certainly made the huge rounds all over the place, including being crowed on at least two Boarding Area blogs (by FlyerTalk). Oh this is going to be a riot if they cancel a ****load of new BD*S accounts.

I think Keeley will be a 'she', and seems to be the generic face of the Diamond Club program (apart from also Joanna, who is a main communication channel for the BD board on FlyerTalk).

In any case, the irony of a lot of this is that people have been often getting status matches to BD for yonks, without the aid of promos. Even if they had started to get tighter on these of recent years, they were still handing them out much more readily than any other program. If you were BA Gold, you were 97%+ a shoo-in to match to BD*G.
