PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Generally any further out than 10-14 days is only an indicator. It is not until quite close, say 4-7 days out, ie the few days before T-80, that you can gain an idea of likelihood. So in the case of your SFO flight this week, the indicators are good for some upgrades, depending on where pax are in the pecking order. It is still J9, with W down to 1. Upstairs J is very full based on the seat map, but lots of unallocated downstairs (see below).

Thanks.

So unsurprisingly the best seats are taken already though there's no bad seat in J. As a solo PS traveller I would find out about a day before the flight or when my boarding pass is scanned at the gate if my upgrade is successful, right?

I think before the gate personally, probably in the last 24 hours, but will be interested to hear how you get on.

Which is more likely for a points upgrade into business?

Well F availability on the outbound flight is probably a help as some J pax may upgrade to F which could open up some more J seats for potential upgrades. J upgrades to F may also open up some good seats in J so you may be able to get a better seat if you get the upgrade to J than on a plane that doesn't have F. On the other hand QF11 is sold out of I class so probably has less J seats currently available than the inbound flight QF12 which is sold out of first class.

You may also wish to have a look at the seat maps to see which seats have been chosen. How far out are the flights?

Well Oatek pointed out that an earlier than 10-14 days before the flight the loadings are only an indicator. They could change due to purchases closer to the flight time.

Can someone please help with the loadings on these flights. Have put in some cheap upgrade bids.

Thanks steady!

Those 3 flights look wide open. My USD95 and USD100 bids to upgrade to business have half a chance.

How much of a premium above minimum did you bid?
I bid just below recommended minimum but still made sure I was just in the "Fair" band. Has worked other times so see how we go this time.

If my upgrade bid fails JessicaTam and mickeyc747 are in business for one of the flights and they will throw some crumbs back to row 6. ;)

Is that an expectation?
That they will throw some crumbs back to me in row? Who knows. Not sure food is going to be on the mind after spending a whole day in the HKG lounge crawl. I fully expect to sit in row 6 and if upgrade bid comes through all the better.

Upgrade confirmed at T29(?) - would the notification be early because that wasn't long before checkin opened for the connecting domestic flight? Got an aisle seat in the middle section of the middle cabin on the lower deck. Hope there's no one seated in the middle seat.

When I booked the flight and applied for the upgrade I was a NB, but thanks to a status run I was PS before the upgrade came through.

Thanks

Looking at the seat map for tomorrow's flight on ExpertFlyer (I can't see loadings as I don't have a subscription but it looks the seating allocation looks pretty full now that upgrades have come in) it looks like the seat next to me is blocked. Hopefully that sticks and there won't be anyone in the middle seat trying to clamber over me, but even if there is it will still be much nicer to be able to lie flat than not.

I will be SG after this flight, but even as a SG I suspect I have what is probably a tougher request for coming home QF74 Sunday June 12 SFO-SYD. Though that is the night before WWDC starts so hopefully that's not as popular a flight as it might otherwise be. Hmmm the ExpertFlyer seat map suggests maybe only 6(?) seats free so I think I don't have much of a chance. I'm guessing I probably would need an unlikely no show and upgrade at the gate on this one.

Generally, unless the seat next to you shows as blocked, then you won't know right up until the doors close whether you will have a neighbour. The return flight on 12/6 also looks quite open:

In ExpertFlyer the seat next to me shows as blocked but then it also showed seats as being available to pick that weren't, so the ExpertFlyer seat map doesn't look reliable. For online check in there was no option to choose any other seat than what was allocated to me.

Ah, nice. Thanks. I forgot I would only see seats in Expert Flyer that my PS status would let someone flying J choose at this stage.
