Gold? Sorry but if I was given a new $2 coin and it looked like that I would be a bit worried,
I'd call it a dirty brown,a bit like that horrible livery that Southwest used to have,in fact the
Southwest one was probably more gold than this.
Cheers
N'oz

From the terminal, with the sun glinting off them, they look more gold than brown :p

They do the mods in Brisbane, from memory only one of the two has a boom at present! There was an article on the NT news this morning with a picture of a KC135 refuelling a Tindal based F18, it mentioned that we dont have any refuellers at present but soon there will be an evaluation at RAAF Brisbane, epic fail on a number of points not including the fact two have been delivered complete to AMB!

Mate you seem to spend alot of time in DRW - what do you do up here?

btw awesome shot in NT News today

Its part of my rep territory, I am stuck on a tech QF825 at present, at least the scenery is interesting with some KC135s and F15s as well as a greyhound landing.

Nope, y in a 763, so no surprise it's gone tech, A330s on
Y on Thursday's and Sunday's and they are late always.

787 for DFW route - A quote from SMH Traveller yesterday 26th July

DFW Route:
The airline hopes to increase frequency to a daily service and is seeking regulatory approval to coordinate with American on areas such as fares, selling activity and joint venture proposals in an expanded commercial relationship.
Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce has said the airline is likely to switch the 747 to Boeing 787 Dreamliners when they became available.Read more: Tourists dominate on world's longest 747 route for Qantas

I am guessing but it seems that the 787 will be used for routes that are long and not 747 capacity, JNB, Buenos Aires etc. I guess the reason that they are not leasing 777's for the route.

The problem with JHB and buenos aires is that the route is very remote. V Australia had to take a much longer route to jhb due to the twin engine. The other thing is most of the time, particularly weekend both routes are very busy and regularly booked out. Qantas almost have a monopoly of those routes. Especially jhb they could fill an A380

It could open new routes heading north?

You'd think the 744ERs will eventually be on JNB and EZE only, with 380s to LHR and LAX from SYD/BNE/MEL, 787s to DFW and everywhere else that remains QF that's not on 330s, and everything else to Jetstar.

Wish they lease a few 747 Intercontinental's, noticed a passenger one did a test flight to Phoenix last week with a dark blue tail, maybe destined for Lufthansa.

The rumours are that ANZ is going to fly AKL-GRU with AKL-IPC-GRU and ETOPS207 once the 787's arrive.

It will only add +30 minutes to the flight time and the flight time will be 13/14.5 hours and they will get all the transit traffic from Asia via a faster routing (un-congested air-space south pacific).

Just read this morning the VH-VZR has joined the fleet and VZS is not far away.. Both are new 737-800

QF tweeted an interesting picture this morning:

AYneK6BCIAApq9B.jpg

What they did not tweet was probably what they were thinking.....
QF to Boeing "We dont really like this one, can we take one of those blue ones opposite with two engines please"

For more 744s on the sale list:

OJG is listed as for sale available from 09/2012
OJH is listed as for sale available from 10/2012
OJJ is listed as for sale available from 04/2013
OJN is listed as well last month.

From what I can tell, QF have 25 747's still in the fleet.

The order that they are retiring them seems to be random (as it does with the 767's). I can understand for OJH and K.

Are there reasons why it is not done in age order, and what are the factors behind retiring them in the order they are?
