I'm curious how this works. Do Y and F pax use the same door on the lower level? If so what's to stop you getting stuck in a big line waiting to board? Is the trick to board at first call or final call?

Depends where you're boarding from - but my experience is to board late.

Never had a line in the jet bridge.

Sometimes F will have it's own bridge, other times it's shared with Y.

Again - never had an issue.

Go ahead and maximize your lounge time :)

Mind you. Being in F is just just like having more lounge time. And if you board with everyone else and then turn left. You will be the envy of those turning right

Thanks for the feedback. I know many jet bridges are capable of 2 doors but I've never paid attention on the multi level ones and I couldn't see any pics. I've only traveled J on a QF A380 previously.

I'll be boarding at MEL.

Not an issue, a procession of musicians precedes each and every F passenger, those Y passengers waiting in line are ushered to a side by a guard of armed soldiers, and those who fail to kneel or kowtow are summarily dispatched to the next Low Cast Carrier on the same route. Don't fear the F passengers are none-the-aware of the commotion, for they are carried upon a plush leather litter by indentured slaves who ensure all bumps and knocks of the Y scum are cushioned by their bound but eager to serve bodies.

That only happens if you have more than 4 French martinis in the Lounge.

MEL shares the bridge with Y usually, but you board late from the lounge and directly from the lift on level 1.

I personally cannot verify it, the above was based on recollections made by TonyHancock(1)

Really? I asked the lounge people exactly that question and they said, no, have to join the scrum on the gate lounge level to have docs checked, then the scrum again at the escalators to go down.

A second time I followed a couple who I saw were in F also and they did just the same.

Depends on where you're going (ie. LHR or LAX). But IME F pax get to board from level 1.

If you're just WP but in Y - that may not apply.

Was to LAX both times, travelling F. Well, this is why we subscribe to AFF :)

In my experience, we got "stuck" behind the Y passengers and had to make our way slowly onto the plane. It didn't bother us as it was our first time on F and nothing could spoil the experience. Maybe we boarded too early but it did give us ample time to settle in the F suite. This was in Melb.

When we flew out of Lax we just ended up in a giant mess with Y passengers - took forever to board. However once aboard the scrum was quickly forgotten. :)

I know it is sad, but we are quite shy people so minstrels would probably have been acutely embarrassing. :) :) On the subject of embarrassment for F passengers, when flying back F from JNB a few years ago, we came to an area where a young gentleman was directing pax to queues. he looked at us and said Business? And we said no First - he waved us to the correct queue and then said "Oh you must be very rich" (typical African humour). We cracked up laughing as did many of the people in the vicinity!

LAX flights typically require the additional check.

Last time I was ex-MEL to LAX the F pax all got escorted from the lounge down the lift to Level 1, non-F got sent down the escalator.

But perhaps procedures have changed so YMMV.

LHR flights are from Level 1 this week :)
