Final flights for the B767

No such thing as a flight engineer. Ansett's 767s were the only ones in the world that did operate with one, and they didn't need him either (though they were worth their weight in gold on the 747 Classic).
I wasn't quite sure as it was very hard to hear the announcements.

He announced as an engineer. Think he was based in Sydney from what he said to me and won the tickets internally.

David from AusBT was there and behind him was a journo from Australian Aviation

OK folks so i'll add my 2 cents in on this flight. It was FANTASTIC!! I feel so lucky to have been given the opportunity to be on board. Everything was really good - the crew, Mike Garvin (Captain and Deputy? chief of QF Operations I think he said) made a great speech to us all, the unexpected goodie bag with the final flight shirts and the QFlink book was a really nice touch, the proposal (and acceptance) was very sweet (I heard the future groom say how hard it was to keep THAT one a secret from her - I can but imagine!), all of the "airplane nerds"(as the PA in MEL put it...) on board having a blast (I pity those people who just wanted to get to SYD for their 7pm dinner bookings or whatever...) and the air of good cheer from everyone. The inflight announcements and crew were great, and the efforts of the tech crew to sign endless BP's pre and post flight, and allow coughpit visits for a long time was nothing short of going above and beyond and "sharing the spirit" (to borrow a phrase). Heck even the infamous new box meal (I had the biriyani chicken) was actually pretty good surprisingly!

The QF team wh managed this all lead by Sharna and ANdrew at MEL and goodness knows countless more behind the scenes in marketing, dispatchers, ops, etc etc etc all performed so well to make it memorable.. right down tot he very appropriate playing of the "Feels like Home to me" song on landing as we got the water salute. Very appropriate and well planned.

and for the small group that wound up at the Rydges bar till closing, we had a great time too! :)

A really memorable day. Thamk YOU QF, Thank you AFF folks (and all the others around)... such a great time.

(I did take a few pics but nothing can really compare with the great shots and videos already posted here, so I won't waste bandwitdh) :)

Mike Galvin. Head of Flight Operations. It's a new title, but he's basically the Deputy Chief Pilot.

JB747 - I'm presuming this would be the same Mike Galvin ex Navy LCDR? I first ran into Mike doing laps with us at the Nowra Olympic pool when he was a Midshipman and the guys from Creswell came into Nowra for training... Will Mike now move onto A330s, A380's, 737's or even 744's? However given the remaining life of the 744's I wouldn't anticipate much movement onto that aircraft...

Other sectors not really the issue as OLCI opened at 5pm (ie: 7 hours ago) for this flight. I'm thinking there's obviously things going on, and some bookings are a bit special (as in airport check-in only) probably due to the conditions, freebies(like mine) and so on. Yes, I kind of got around that and did generate a BP, but it wouldn't surprise me one iota if things change again in the next 12-16 hours.
Qantas OLCI has had a glitch for a while now.

If you have more than one flight in a booking (not a return flight as such, eg. SYD-MEL-SIN) you cannot use OLCI for first flight at T-24 hours and a lot of times you cannot use OLCI at all even when second flight is at T-24 hours.

Yep, Mike is ex RAN.

I don't know what his intentions are. As a management pilot, I think he's outside of the normal bidding for slots. I don't think we have management pilot who is currently on the A330, so that would be my bet...but I've been wrong before.

Mike is heading to the 747,

I was pretty sure he said he would head to the 744. Some others are headed to the 330 (eg: Mrs Zupp, our FO), and the 380

Perhaps this is not a consistent issue as I've never come across it as in my experiences I've been able to OLCI for either day return trips (though when I have those I tend to just get the r/t BP's at a kiosk at the aiport).

Anyway with QF767 the particular PNR I was on didn't have any other flights, but I suspect it was more due to (in this case only) the special nature of that particular booking by QF. Once I'd managed to get my QFF# in, it allowed it for me. I knew there was no credit and that's fine it was more for the ability to try to get a better seat (which I did) and OLCI (ditto). Thank You again, QF!

I think there's a difference between OLCI and airport kiosks.

But you are probably right about the inconsistency.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

this is going OT but the obvious difference between a kiosk (or agent at the airport) vs OLCI or mobile (app) check in or whatever is that QF knows where you are, more or less. I mean I've done OLCI 24 hours before a flight whle in a different country and stuff like that. At least when you check in at a kiosk at your departure airport there's a fair chance you'll actually make the flight vs a mobile or OLCI where you could be miles away :)

Anyway now return you to 767 discussions... still smiling after the experience !

I shouldn't read this thread. It's making me regret my decision of not coming back.

in the end I never cancelled my ticket, I gave it en gratis to a certain AFFer of which I absorbed change fees too :)
