Final flights for the B767

It sounds like there were 4 767s operating flights today. Did they all get retired at the same time (so we'll see 4 (5?) 767s heading off to WS/CA at the same time)? Was the MEL-SYD OGG flight the last QF 767 in the air?
Did the BNE-PER flight normally using the QF767 number operate today?

The 5 retirements that occurred today are listed in order at The Qantas Source.
I have no idea about their retirement locations and flights.
OGL should've been the last one in the air.
QF767 does not regularly run on Saturdays anyway, so the number was free for this flight.

I had the pleasure of being on OGL on 24/12 for QF452. Unfortunately I was unable to be in Australia to make this final flight (much as I would have loved to be there!)

The CSM for the flight did a special announcement which I found quite bittersweet. He went through the aircraft registration, how long it had been flying, the name of the aircraft, as well as explaining its impending retirement.

Oh well. Gone are the days where I search for a 767 as the equipment type. :(

Surprised no one has mentioned the marriage proposal on board!

Well do tell. Some of us had to work rather than gallivanting all over the place. (Times like this I miss day shifts!)
Qantas (flight?) engineer proposed during the flight :D I assume by all the cheering that she said yes.

VH-OGU final arrival into BNE to it's water canon salute.
transcript below says it all doesn't it ............

TOWER = “QANTAS five thirty it’s been a pleasure to have the 767 in our airspace for the last quarter century….we will miss it. Wind is
two one zero degrees, one five knots, runway one niner…cleared to land”
QF530 = “Cleared to land, QANTAS five thirty….and we’ll miss you too”

No such thing as a flight engineer. Ansett's 767s were the only ones in the world that did operate with one, and they didn't need him either (though they were worth their weight in gold on the 747 Classic).

There was a qantas media lady roaming about followed by a guy with a very expensive camera. There was a journalist in the seat behind me whom all the crew seemed to know. The media lady said to the journalist "watch this a guy is about to propose to his girlfriend" then walks forward. The guy with the camera bends over to my better half in the seat next to me and says "I hope that it isnt you [because the surprise has been spoiled]"

There were a number of announcements in the lounge at MEL as OGL passed under the water canon salute, and then made its last take-off. Quite a few of the staff members were standing by the windows with camera-phones in hand, and tears in eyes. Lots of hugs after it took off, and reminiscing. A few clueless pax who had no idea of the significance of the event still got into the mood.

I got a (slightly shaky) video of the take-off which I will post when I can.

There was no QF767 flight number BNE/PER on Sat 27 Dec - just the usual QF597 plus QF573 that operates from time to time.

Might've been AusBT's David Flynn.

I had a very enjoyable day and met some new people. It will be a flight to remember forever.

Some (short) you tube videos of the water cannon salute out of Melbourne, the Harbour Bridge fly-by and then the water cannon salute as we taxied into the ramp at Sydney.

(Melbourne) http://youtu.be/d6ua0l_7Xhg

(Harbour Bridge) http://youtu.be/K7qkEQoBUhA

(Sydney) http://youtu.be/G4378P_71QE

I saw the helicopter filming the circuit shoot past a couple of times - so there will be some good videos somewhere. Also the guy in 29K had a go pro camera suction capped to his window - so I imagine that there will be a lengthy video on youtube fairly shortly.

One more - http://youtu.be/tmDs9CiNuZ8 - this time a 1 minute slideshow of about 40 still photos of the cruise up the coast past the southern beaches, the left turn over Manly and then then left circuit over the Harbour Bridge.

[I'll stop with the uploads now]

She certainly did. The happy couple were seated in 24D and 24E. Well, to be accurate, the bride-to-be was in 24D, her future husband was kneeling in front of her when he proposed. Great excitement all round.
