Hi All,
Just another way Qantas suck.I was checking out a "award" booking and
i noticed that nearly ever "award" flight available i was checking out, requires you to travel to another city then on to your destination which boosts up the points required. ie i was looking at travel between Sydney - Tokyo - Sydney,Brisbane - Tokyo - Brisbane and all flights sent me to either Melbourne or Brisbane first resulting in 80,000 points instead of 50,000,same with Brisbane -Hong Kong - Brisbane.

IF ANYONE knows a way of selecting DIRECT flights please e-mail me and let me know.

Cheers Bertf

Poor princess.

What sort of lead-time are you looking at for your intended award flight? Are you trying to book in peak season? Have you tried varying your date/ time of travel, to see if availability suits you better at an alternative time?

Extra points rip off..or closed thinking??

Yes I know a way...book before anybody else gets one of the small number of award seats on every flight! As Scott says, look at your flexibility...even to the point of paying for a flight to another major capital city to get on board a flight that has open availability. Also, look at the aircraft operating the sector...if it's a 747, there will be more award seats available than a 737.

Look outside the square :)

This is actually better than flying direct - (just making the numbers up here to prove a point) - why spend 80K points to fly SYD-BNE-NRT and return when you can spend 50K points to fly BNE-NRT direct, used a red e-deal to fly SYD-BNE and back, thus getting another 2K points for the paid flights?

Dave

at the time the first post was posted.. you could get SYD - NRT, return for 25,000 points ... only downside was you had to call up one of the qantas drones to book it :?

If SYD-NRT was available at a SPECIAL rate of 25,000 points, then WTF didn't the OP ring them up and book it? As long as he didn't spend more than 24 hours in BNE or MEL, it would have been ticketted at the through rate.

Done this HEAPS of time to maximise drinking time in QF Club's.

WTF didn't he, indeed :? - well said Dave. Nothing gets in the way of Dave and his drinking prowess at QC's.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
