No.

When travelling domestic to international such as ADL-MEL-HKG, you check your bags in at ADL, they are tagged MEL HKG and you will not see them until arrival at HKG.

When travelling international to domestic, such as HKG-MEL-ADL, your bags are tagged MEL ADL, but on arrival into MEL, you collect your bags before being processed by Customs. You then are supposed to redeposit them at MEL before heading to ADL.

The reason for this is that on arrival back into Australia on this routing, MEL is your "Entry" point.

Me, I booked the ADL-SYD one way that night for $90 just to be safe. I had the option of HKG-OOL-SYD-ADL of course and I live in SYD, but chose ADL to be safe.

Some say the way around this is to leave the BAG checked thru to ADL and catch a cab home. VA will get the bag next day back to you in MEL. Or wiser have a local collect it on your behalf and mail it back (PO cost $30) Tell Virgin you were having a beer and missed the flight and rented or borrowed a friend's car and drove it MEL-ADL that night.

OK just booked today RT ADL-HKG $1,750 a person Business Class all the way, RT all in.

Seats ARE still there but a bit of searching needed. Keyed in SYD-HKG and figures were double this!

ADL-MEL-CNS-HKG-OOL-ADL .... quite nice connections too.

800 SC via family pooling via my figures - anyone disagree?.

And likely quite few miles too. Not sure if Plats get the bonus on this airline?

Computer gave me OOL-CBR-SYD if I wanted it, and more SC if we had bothered, but then got in too late from our last SYD connection back home. Have rellies in ADL so worked out pretty nice.

Very good price .. amazed you can see that price - and on VA metal too! I thought $1750 all in was pretty neat. So the deal has not been pulled it seems, or else they re-added it quietly.

ADL-MEL-CNS-HKG-OOL-ADL I think gives me 800 SC on family pooling .. not sure.

Dealing with Hong Kong Airlines is like dealing with Aeroflot - even worse I suspect.

Have emailed them THREE times over 3 days asking what fare bucket the tickets are in, (if not in "I" class I will cancel them) and to please allocate seats together. ZERO response.

I like to have such stuff on paper in case of stuff-ups at gate, and not verbally via some call centre. HOPELESS service and what kind of first impression does this make? All the Virgin seating was of course simple, and done on line.

I phoned Air China yesterday to allocate F seats on some flights to and from Tibet and from Kumning to Chengdu in a few weeks. All are 2 rows of First = 8 seats cabin.

Drone on phone says Row 1 is not booked but is RESERVED for day of flight. Great, He says you can have seats 2A/2C. I say how other the other side Row 2. He chuckles and says they are blocked too. But also ask on the day of flight. None BOOKED but blocked on all 3 flights!

We often complain about VA and QF but some of the Asian Carriers make them look positively stellar!

Thai allocated exact upstairs seats I asked cough-BKK-SYD via email in seconds, but as for Hong Kong Airways. ... .

Despite booking this entirely on Virgin Website as a "I" prefixed published fare, and all here agreed that looked fine, now these laggards have finally responded, it seems only the VIRGIN fights are in I Class and it appears the HK Airlines fares are in Z class which appears to mean Z for ZERO points or SC.

And the ADL-MEL segment is totally missing off their mail.

NOW I'll email the Virgin Plat Desk and check if Z earns anything or if they can re-issue in a bucket that does at no price change. . What a mess

May not amount to anything but I’d be giving that a go. I can still see flights for those dates for $1594pp return on VA metal all the way and it even goes via SYD on return home if you wanted to jump off in Sydney

Are you talking business or economy jase05??? I am only seeing 3k+ return on Virgin with the only cheap flights having the long haul on HKA?
