Excellent J Deal to Hkg-Questions

Thanks to all for the discussion here, particularly for the Promo Code. I booked a J flight HBA-SYD-HKG and a HKG-MEL-HBA return for January for less than $1600. That's an incredible price !

Looking at my booking I see no mention of the fare class other than business. Though others here have mentioned that this fare books into I class, how do I find this info for myself?

Presuming that this fare is in fact into I class it appears it accrues 320SC for the return journey with Velocity, but how would this one earn with SQ KF?

And on the discussion about the hidden city ticketing, I've done it twice with Virgin in the last 3 years. I was honest with the staff at check in and the first time they thanked me for letting them know I would not be on the second flight. The other time they said ok but not to make a habit of it.

You would have received a trip itinerary by email. On the right hand side furthest column will be the ticket info which will contain your fare basis

Question: Looking to purchase an ADL-MEL-HKG return ticket in Business (I class), where it says ADL-MEL is in economy, do I still get the 40SC for this leg?

Oh now I get it. Thanks Jase05.

The deal is still around and I'm considering another booking. Just need to connect the dots with another deal from HK to the US or Europe. Fingers crossed.

HX had some pretty good fares HKG-LAX/SFO but they don’t earn any SC’s to North America

Ok like the price, but can someone tell me what is does it mean if cancelling or changing a flight a fee plus fare difference will apply, how much can this be, ? I'm just hesitating to book because of this,

It means you are charged a change fee and then the difference between the fare you paid ie. Around $1600 at the moment and the cost of the fare you want to change to when you change... normally return business class flights are around 3k to hk so you would pay the change fee + 1400 (if the fare you were changing to was 3k)

Thanks mate but what is the deal if you cancel, it says fee plus fare difference?

Cancellation you would get a credit in their travel bank (ie.a credit with virgin). In this case cancellation fee is $300 so you would have 1300 (if fare you cancelled was 1600) to use towards a future flight with va.

Good news for those who booked on VA metal recently -

To be eligible for the Hong Kong Mega 10,000 Bonus Points promotion you must (1) Activate this offer between 12.01am AEDT 17 April 2018 and 11.59pm 01 May 2018 inclusive (Promotion Period); (2) book an Eligible Flight during the Promotion Period; and 3) enter a valid Velocity membership number at the time of booking. An Eligible Flight is a Virgin Australia operated and marketed flight between Melbourne (MEL) and Hong Kong (HKG) for travel between 17 April 2018 and 14 March 2019 inclusive or Sydney (SYD) and Hong Kong (HKG) for travel between 02 July 2018 and 14 March 2019 inclusive which are flights on which Velocity Points can be earned and booked in a fare class that normally accrues Points. 5,000 Bonus Points will be awarded for each Eligible flight booked during the Promotion Period. For bookings containing return Eligible Flights, 10,000 Bonus Points will be awarded. If your booking is cancelled, the booking will not be eligible to earn Velocity Points. Velocity membership numbers added after flights are flown will not be eligible for the Bonus Points. If you enter an invalid Velocity membership number or the number does not belong to you, the Points will not be awarded. Points cannot be earned on Velocity Reward Seat bookings. Codeshare services marketed or operated by partner airlines other than Virgin Australia are not eligible for this offer. Bonus Points earned are in addition to any Points ordinarily earned and will be applied to base Points only. Any applicable tier bonus earned will not attract Bonus Points as a result of this offer. Bonus Points will be applied to the originally purchased fare class and any upgrades will not attract Bonus Points as a result of this offer. This offer is only available to the intended recipient of this email. This Velocity Points offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or promotion. You should allow up to 4 weeks after the travel period for the bonus Velocity Points to be allocated. The Velocity Membership Terms and Conditions apply, available on Velocity Frequent Flyer website.

I booked on April 20 but activated the code today. Presumably Virgin will only honour the bonus 10,000 points for bookings made after the date of activation.

There's some chance I may make another booking within the offer period so I'm still a possibility

It's all finished !

Just tried multiple dates using KLT69 from Hobart, Adelaide, Perth and the Gold Coast to HK and found on cheap flights on VA metal. Perhaps it was coincidental that VA emailed me the 10,000 point bonus offer today for bookings to HK. I guess it was never going to last.

FYI, cheap bookings are still available on these routes but you end up on HX via CNS

The 10000 bonus points was on the VA website main page from last week.

. This Velocity Points offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or promotion.

I was a bit concerned by this bit, would the promo code be considered a promotion?

I just returned from this trip and thought i will share a couple of tips.

  1. Know your lounges - the check in people i found, generally don't advise you of the details of the lounge unless you ask. A couple of people i was speaking on the plane to said they didn't know about the lounges. In Melbourne it is the Etihad Lounge and in Hong Kong, it was Hong Kong Club Autus
  2. The Hong Kong lounge is in the midfield concourse. I noticed a lot of the signage doesn't refer to this as the 'midfield concourse', rather it refers to the as gates 201-230. On the people mover train, it is the second (last stop) from the main terminal.
  3. Hkg checkin opens 3 hours prior to take off. However you can check in at anytime during the day at the HK Airport Express stations so you can checkin your bags early and take the train later to the airport. Alternatively you can head to the airport early and spend extra time in the lounge. The only thing is you may need to remind the check-in staff to put a priority tag on your baggage as they had to be reminded to tag mine.

How was the Etihad lounge at that time of night? I’m assuming the service drops off after the last EY flight

I was on VA87 which was a morning flight departing at 10AM so can't comment on what it is like at night or before Etihad flights. There was the standard selection of hot breakfast buffet. The bar wasn't staffed (there was beer in the self-serve fridge) and there wasn't any barista coffee (only self-serve machine). What was interesting was that the front counter was staffed by virgin staff.

Cheers, I’m on VA69 in October with the same promo. 0130 departure

FWIW earlier this month I flew VA MEL-LAX and used the Etihad lounge. Departure was at 1130 and while the bar wasn't staffed, as soon as we sat at the bar one of the waitresses came over and took our orders. Could order anything we wanted (coughtails incl.) - not sure if it's different for HKG flights
