recent business upgrade offer, about a week out, for Syd to Abu, range from $1050 to $1800;
then $350 upwards for Abu to Istanbul. Bid minimum amounts and await for result, informed allegedly about 24-48 hrs before Tues depart..
FYI, will report outcome. Minimum bid therefore seems to have almost doubled over past twelve months.

Yeah, that was my experience of the minimum bid too, has increased greatly since the auction programme first started.

Important point to note is that you can upgrade at the airport for less than the minimum bid much of the time - so it comes down to whether the flight is looking full (Y or F) and how keen.

Etihad et al are really about creating a Dutch auction where they play you off with the 'likelihood of success'.

Currently in AUH biz lounge. AUH-MEL J full. Desk quotes upgrade to F, $600 USD.

Staying in J, despite seat reservations changing for no reason, and we are now not seated together. $500 USD was our limit.

The good Mumm bubbles appear to have gone in J. Lanson Black from Milan to AUH.

Well, this story had a happy ending. We were upgraded at the gate to F. No idea why.
Made it a great trip home.

For those who wonder if its possible to upgrade from J to F, when you have already upgraded with miles from Y to J. Here is the answer :
