With those surcharges, at least MEL-SIN isn't that attractive.

If Scoot has ~$500 fares available for ScootPlus, much rather that than EK economy (and timings similar). Also being wedged into Scoot or Jetstar 787's is not an awful lot different to being wedged into EK 10-across 777's. A few weeks ago booked MEL-SIN for next month for $300 on Jetstar including a Plus Bundle (so get meal, luggage and 6800 pts). With an EK award would basically cost the same cash and have to forgo 37,000 pts.

Even in business - when you can probably get such availability I imagine fares wouldn't be that high, and just checked May, random dates - SQ was $3800 return. So 150,000 pts saves $1500. Not what you expect a business class redemption to be worth.

The value is First MEL-DXB @ $1154 + 170,800 points

Given an EK Economy Saver one way is $1446, you are paying $300 less and buying an upgrade @ 170k points for 14 hrs in First.. which is how I look at it.

Qantas upgrade for MEL-LAX (14hrs) from an Economy Saver ($1846) to Business is 120k one way.

Indeed, $300 in tax one way, and the 787s are much nicer than the 777s and last time i flew SIN-MEL on EK the service wasnt really any better than JQ apart from an included meal. The EK service in Y is nothing special anymore.

Agree, although in theory that option is nothing new, as there are already MEL-DXB flights. But I guess this service adds availability or even perhaps the option of a longer transit of SIN connecting to an onward A380 service to DXB, which also may have better availability.

I dunno, but I have zero intention of ever going anywhere near DOH even if they are twice daily (which if true must be including that weird MEL tag flight thingy where pax get to spend a night on the floor airside in MEL?)
I think I can understand why you won’t do DOH and that’s a shame. I just booked the flight out of Adelaide to Doha via Melbourne as an award flight and it’s really well timed. Adelaide to Melbourne and deplane for 3.5 hrs, just in time for lunch in the F Lounge. 😊

Glad to see this one is back. I started using this flight back in 2006 and IIRC the flight times seem to change based on the northern summer/ winter schedule. Sometimes the flight times were very convenient sometimes not so much however you could often pick up EK F for cheaper than QF J.

Anyone think there is a chance this is run on a 777 which has had the Game Changer seats fitted?
Extremely unlikely I would have thought. The new fit outs are on very selective routes. We did DXB GVA in F last September. Wuz luverly. :;

Yeah, I thought that might be the case, oh well can't complain. I have an F Redemption on the DXB to MEL bit coming up in May, first in in F ever, so I have no doubt it will be excellent.

Does anyone think Emirates or Qanats will extend their Lounge time in Melbourne consider the flight is 2:25AM

Previously I've even managed to check in early for the (later) flight to SIN and the staff allowed me to remain in the lounge after the (earlier) direct flight had departed...
