E190 J class

I think everyone would be happy if the price of the product reflected the actual quality of the product - and the quality of the product is undoubtably the result of the actual aircraft that you may be on.

When qantas did this, it was by surcharges the better quality ( the skybeds surcharge ) rather than discounting the lesser.

I actually prefer the E190. Quicker on/off. Less delays than the rest of the fleet. Plus you get a table next to you for the digiplayer and one for the meal. It feels spacious. My last flight they had the curtins drawn too - nice private cabin.

However, <2 hour flights only. 738 or a332 otherewise.

I prefer the E190 too, that's why I initially asked.
I am confused. If I do book it, what can I expect in J? Is there a separate cabin? Or just the old PE seats?

You get your own toilet for the cabin only!

The old PE seats recovered in dark gray leather - and an empty seat next to you.

Personally I don't find the seats a big issue - but I'm average height, so don't need a great deal of leg room.

Re-covered PE seats. And a curtin down from the overhead bins to the back of the seats in row 2. (dunno how row 3 pax feel about it.

Thanks for the info. And there's a curtain that separates you from the rest of the cabin or not? It's actually very difficult to get any sort of reliable info about this other than on here. I don't think the Virgin website is very detailed at all.
No biggy anyway.
I'm 184cm so I'm not short, but not a giant either, and for a short-haul flight like MEL-SYD, the legroom is not an issue. Hopefully the breakfast is worth getting up early for. Somehow I doubt it.

Thanks heaps for that.
Will book tonight. E190 and get an extra half hour's sleep or 738? Might toss a coin.

Flew CNS-BNE on vh-zpq today which was a 190. Took some photos of the weird curtain for you all.
Business in the current config is a joke.

It looks like the same material and even colour that QF uses, though they don't offer it in such a size clearly, haha.

Does anyone know how the new J seats will work? I realise there will be a 1+2 layout, but will they take out row 3 to offer some extra leg room for rows 1 and 2, or will they slot the new seats with the same spacing as the old seats?

It would be good if they ever closed the curtain (I'm 1 out of 6 with it closed).

However, re: your joke - I actually like this config. No body next to me, extra space for the tv. I'm happy with it.

Do any other operators of the E190 have a J section? I'd imagine it'd be similar to what others do if there are any. Save for that there's only speculation until it happens.

A few US operators offer a genuine domestic first class seat on the E190. US Airways is one of them:

But they still manage to have 26 rows in the cabin, the same as DJ's current Y/Y+ configuration. Given DJ is only planning to have two rows of J they shouldn't have too much of a problem if Y is tightened up to 31" (which I think is where it's at on the refurbed / new 737-800s).

Lufthansa provides business class on the E190s but the seats are the same as economy (and they don't even block off neighbouring seats like DJ does).
