Hi all

I am due to become a dual citizen of UK and Australia in the next two weeks. I then have a DONE4 including the US (and UK/HKG/Cyprus) scheduled from 25 May.

I will have to get an Oz passport for the travel and will be getting the extended size (and express delivery).

I am just wondering which passport to enter the US with. There is no difference from a visa waiver perspective but I have two "concerns":

- If i enter on my new Oz passport my fingerprints will match those on my UK passport and that might cause confusion.

- If I enter using my UK passport and fill out the online ESTA application the passport info wont agree to the passport I give to check in staff.

Any thoughts on this?

S

Use whichever is most conveniant for the trip. If you have concerns of duplication from the UK and AU passports and fingerprints, use the UK one

Put the UK passport information in the booking and show it at check in

For passing through outbound immigration at Australia, just show the AU passport; that does not have to match the information given to US

Thanks Dave - I thought that might - just was not sure about the mismatch between the ESTA/VWP and the outbound passport.

One long term issue is the UK passport is almost full so I would prefer to use the Oz passport - which I will for HKG, NZ and India later in the year...

Passport shown at check-in should be the passport you will use to enter the destination country and does not need to be the same passport you show to depart Australia. By law you must use your AU passport to depart Australia. By law you must use your UK passport to enter the UK. You can choose whichever of the two you wish to use to enter the USA - just need to enter the correct details for the selected passport into the ESTA and hand that passport over at check-in.

I have both AU & US passports...I show the Australian one to leave here and produce the US one to enter the US and always have both available when checking in for flights in case the agent queries it. When I make my online flight booking, I enter the US passport details. Have done this several times and never had any problems.
