Saturday and the prediction was for a partly cloudy day but no rain.So i decided on the walk from the Mersey ferry pontoon to DPO and back.
From the pontoon the Empress and the Goliath-a cement carrierUnusually the Goliath is an Australian flagged ship and takes cement manufactured at Railton to Melbourne.

Fishing in the Mersey.

Walking beside the Mersey towards the eastern breakwater.

East Devonport beach.
1602663556389.jpeg.1602663576711.jpeg.

1602663674995.jpeg.

A dog club was having a gathering there.definitely no social distancing but they were outdoors.
For the first third of the walk it is one long area of parklands.Plus a caravan park, villa resorts and a Seniors village.
1602663863794.jpeg.1602663878264.jpeg.

Looking back at Mersey Bluff and the rocky point between beaches.
1602664090316.jpeg.1602664157770.jpeg.

1602664173062.jpeg.1602664212877.jpeg.

The path is sealed.
1602664305040.jpeg.

Not sure what this building is but a great position.
1602673801604.jpeg.

Pardoe beach.
1602673828337.jpeg.1602673841503.jpeg.

1602673861660.jpeg.

Good visibility today.
1602673908846.jpeg.1602673963231.jpeg.

1602674000571.jpeg.

I have now reached the end of the sealed pathway and the boundary of the Devonport Council. But 500 metres down a dirt road and a new pathway.
1602674110142.jpeg.1602674123486.jpeg.

Still an easy walking track.
1602674158189.jpeg.

The reserve along this part of the track was quite narrow. To the left glimpses of Bass strait and to the right farmland.
1602674828151.jpeg.1602674850471.jpeg.

Lots of frog noises coming from this lagoon.
1602674890574.jpeg.1602674904298.jpeg.

still views back to Mersey Bluff.
1602674953492.jpeg.1602675037943.jpeg.

You pass the sewerage works and contented cows.
1602675128047.jpeg.1602675140822.jpeg.

Then down to a beach with lots of cuttlefish and a bridge across a creek.
1602675261219.jpeg.1602675279221.jpeg.

Over the creek the rerve became wider though not as much diversity.typical low bushes.
1602793154796.jpeg.

Though saw a couple of small marsupials.Probably the long nosed potoroo as they went into these typical bolt holes.
1602793261259.jpeg'

Then the end of the track.DPO comes into view.
1602793331799.jpeg.1602793346218.jpeg.

The track doesn't quite get you to DPO.You have to go onto the beach, jump a small creek then up the dunes to DPO.
1602793451848.jpeg.1602793463212.jpeg.

1602793481667.jpeg.

I went back along the beach.
1602793564623.jpeg.1602793586538.jpeg.

If you are very observant you might realise I had stumbled across a murder.
1602793661537.jpeg.1602793682729.jpeg.

Of crows. :D
In fact there were several murders along the beach front.
1602793754720.jpeg.1602793773033.jpeg.

And a few hermit crabs.
1602793803452.jpeg.

Back to the sealed pathway and some other visitors.Someone introduced them to Tasmania.
1602849013712.jpeg.

When I started to walk back along the beach i noticed a sailing vessel that appeared to be a long way west of the Mersey River.
1602849367414.jpeg.

However just after this picture it turned and headed towards the Mersey at speed.
1602849494195.jpeg.1602849508025.jpeg.

1602849529059.jpeg.1602849543057.jpeg.

1602849560681.jpeg.1602849582053.jpeg.

This is an old Bass strait fishing ketch that was renovated for the Bicenntenial. Now in the hands of some locals who started taking passengers just over a month ago.

And back to the start.
1602850219101.jpeg.

So to the weekend. As usual it rained all day Saturday. However a much nicer day on Sunday so it was off to Deloraine with a plan for a walk along the Meander river,a lunch at the Deloraine Deli then visit a couple of nearby waterfalls.
Still a nice show of spring flowers and lots of waterbirds.
1603278280171.jpeg.

1603278364566.jpeg.1603278382416.jpeg.

1603278426636.jpeg.1603278440849.jpeg.

1603278459821.jpeg.

Another sculpture over the river which is said to be inspired by boat design to fit in with the river.
1603364285144.jpeg.

I understood the bush hens though looking after their young.
1603364351296.jpeg.1603364365284.jpeg.

1603364385190.jpeg.1603364399254.jpeg.

Again a pleasant walk.
1603364497359.jpeg.1603364514334.jpeg.

The trees along the path are Yoshino cherries donated by a Japanese owner of a buckwheat mill.Tasmanian buckwheat is very close in quality to Japanese buckwheat but it is fresh when out of season in Japan. The cherry trees were donated as they flower when Tasmanian buckwheat is being milled in Yokohama. So if you have eaten soba noodles in Japan in winter you may have eaten Tasmanian buckwheat.
Here is a picture from the net of late September in Deloraine.
1603365583987.png.

Unfortunately there have been idiots who have made the occasion much less than it should have been. The mill owner has donated over 500 cherry trees and the number now is a lot less because of events such as this.
