Hi
First of all i don't no why my preview thread was taken down since it was related to Qantas questions. Oh though the questions i recently i ask was never answered and it's there for why i ask here because it's always good to know things.

So apologies if something went wrong. But i highly respect the forum and so you should do too without getting off topic.

So if i permit to ask here are what i wanted to know.

1: I have a flight to catch on the 787 Dreamliner and i be seating at the last back row of the Premium seat from Bne to LAX. My flight departures 830pm next month and i get to LAX by about approximately 415pm same day (unless any delays during the day or arrival) So since i have the option to change my seat for free.. I like to know where will i be able to see the sunrise from.. The left side of the windows or right side of the windows.. geographically i don't exactly know how the plane would fly off in it's directions but my ideal was to view that yellow orange beautiul glowing early morning sunrise as i like to capture that from my camera. And there for i ask you for this flight which direction is the sunrise is viewed.. left or right of the window seat! And yes i will have my window seat. I do like to see the views and capture it on camera. Was just curious to find out where is the most best view for this direction. it's a late flight next month.

2: Silly question this one is but still admire and curious to know. So since the Dreamliner for the Premium seats is a small group of seats.. Do the staff actually close the curtain all thru the flight or half way the flight the curtains where no one else can walk past premium group and as well business class.. So just remember i fly many times but not always with Qantas and there for i did notice the staff always forgets or delays to close the curtains or even they don't really bother to close it properly so it is more discrete for these on different group seats of the plane. Tho i be actually right next to one of these curtains since my preference seat was the back row of the premium seat.

3: Please correct me because i have no idea.. The Qantas Dreamliner from bne to LAX is the meals different for these on premium vs Economy ? If so what is actually different from them both when it comes to meals and or ask... Guess premium do get more privileges of more food to give ?

4: And one like you and like me and anyone prefers a good entertainment of things on the front tv you have on the seat. So i personally do not watch much movies or dramas. However i do watch alot of reality such as cooking shows... travel shows... Science shows and all that to do with documentaries. So i do not know how good or how much content and interesting things are there to watch with Qantas on the dreamliner for the tv programming. So maybe someone can bring light to this because my last experience with Qantas via HK it was pretty boring not much to watch just mainly movies that i didn't even like and very small amount of documentaries which end up not enough for that 8 hour travel. So i like to know what is there to watch.. I do like the news though... This Bne to LAX it is a 12 hour so i would of course want entertainment on board. Also im not into games or app games as it is rather childish.

Again thanks and these are questions i like to know but it also will help readers who may also be interested because i think it is good questions.. After all ou want to enjoy your flight and you have the rights to ask. After all all im doing is asking your help as much as you do when you want to know something as it is a forum for everybody. But please do not go off topic. It's important to stick with the question if you know the answer. If you dont no the answer then please do not message here.

Thank you people.

In Question 1. Also like to know the length in which i be able to see (daylight) or getting daylight morning.... since my flight departs 830pm i get to lax 415pm but i like to know how many hours will it be day light starting from the point of departure by 830pm and to the length when the plane is flying.. will it be day light in 4 hours time ? or something. Since the sun anticlockwise and the plane goes towards to East while th sun follows the west.. make sound though as if the night will be shorter but more day time longer during the flight. Who knows im not a mathematical on this.

Firstly, the QF website has a lot of information on Y+.

See Premium Economy | Qantas AU and follow through some of the links.

2. Yes, they close the curtains soon after take-off.
3. Food and wine is much better then regular economy. Think more along the lines of business class food.
4. They generally have a fair selection of documentaries. I don't think anyone here can tell you if they'll be to your liking or not.

As you will be flying in a north-easterly direction, the sun will rise on the right hand side of the plane, so you'd be wanting to be sitting in a "K" seat.

This website will give you a rough idea of the movement of the sun/daylight over the course of your flight: SunFlight.net

The thing on the dreamliner is that the crew can override your window dimming controls, so you may not be able to brighten it to take photos when you want, if the crew wants to keep people sleeping. Coming back form LHR on the Dreamliner last August we wanted to "open" so undim the window for better visibility when filling in the incoming passenger cards, but the controls were overridden so no luck - the cabin remained annoying dark, even though it was daylight in Perth.

Agreed. It's really up to the airline crew of the 787 (regardless of operator) whether to release the shades in the morning or keep it "locked" for people's comfort (e.g. keeping windows 'dimmed' so some folks can get 'more' sleep).

I do note the Asian carriers for the most part keep the shades locked on the red-eye flights until the last 30mins-1hour.

In my experience the windows will be locked and I doubt the crew will unlock them - the sunrise for your flight will be near the mid point when most people are sleeping. They brought the locked windows for a reason because it's really disruptive if you are a light sleeper and people keep opening them.

If you had a morning arrival into LAX (QF15) you probably would have seen it just before you landed.

You will still be able to see the sunrise, but it will be very dim (a bit like watching TV with your sunglasses on).

IMG_7331.jpg The shades are kept down until the "appropriate time". It was dim and dark even though the sun had been up for hours.
A shot through the dimmed window.

Have you asked?

Considering they tell passengers to close them on aircraft with manual shades, I think the answer is rather predictable.

If a passenger near me asked and the crew unlocked them (which by the way, I doubt the setting is for individual seats, it would be a global setting) - I would actively ask the crew to re-lock them. Which is probably why they wouldn't unlock them in the first place.

They unlock them on asking with other airlines. So Qantas might be the same. Unless you ask you won't know.

Sure they ask pax to manually lower shades, but that's also for those who fall asleep and have no intention of looking outside. For pax that do want to look out, they can raise them. Same can apply to the dimmer windows.

I think I recall a poster on AFF not so long ago stated that crew can unlock individual shades on request, but one would think they would have to take other passenger’s comfort into consideration before they did.

I, for one, hope they never unlock the shades on any flight I am on.

Even if you aren't sleeping, your eyes acclimatise to the darker cabin. We have all been on a flight where its dark then AAAAAARGH MY EYEBALLS as someone decides to crack the blinds open for a look outside.

Hi First of all thank you to the first post. Much appreciate giving the time to respond to what you know! I thought the Premium group on the dreamliner might as well be the same configuration food supply as to Economy passengers. Only different from all i know and please correct me if mistaken on this long haul flight. Its that the only differences is that Premium seating group has real metal fork/knife and spoon and real class instead of everything plastic where you normally see on Economy. But i could be mistaken. But the only different on food on board is that Business class do get a more upgraded version and complete different then the rest of the Economy passengers by all means and also they get real fork/knife and a spoon instead of plastic.

Hey there Doyvid. I thank you for that and pretty good information you have just given us to know. I think its a good question to what i was asking in regards the length of day and night time session. Thank you for the direct link. Oh though that might not always be precisely accuracy but still works out good enough. Great to view the red/yellow glowing sky from the distance that is the beautiful moment one loves to view from a point of view on a window seat.

You are mistaken. As others have pointed out, the food for premium economy is completely different to economy. It is upgraded and very similar to domestic Australian business class. You also get upgraded drinks, with better quality wines and spirits. You are correct in that you get metal cutlery and real glass.

Not in my experience. I have seen QF and BA attendants chastise passengers for opening them when people are trying to sleep. If I recall the CM usually says something along the lines of "Please keep blinds closed for the comfort of other passengers trying to sleep".

To be honest, it's incredibly rude and selfish to do this on a 787. You can still look out the window whilst keeping the cabin relatively dark. It's win/win. Asking for them to be open is a jerk move - especially on a transpacific flight where there's nothing to see.

Oh, I'm all in the 'windows closed' camp - even for day flights. But my view is pretty much isolated. Everyone else claims there are eye-shades for those who want to sleep, and some people need to look out for air sickness purposes, or to read by natural light, or simply 'look out' because 'they can'. Not forgetting that being able to wake up naturally with the sunrise probably helps more than anything else with jetlag (and given QF seems to be big on health and wellbeing on these long flights - to deny a natural dawn seems counter intuitive).
