Double SC's - A mere Marketing tool or Doom for WP?

Are you saying that people on AFF are not "average"?

We are definitely not the average person flying, there are not many people I know outside of the AFF Forum that would take extra flights, book special fares, book JASA's and the like to earn/retain status or FF points.

Yes of course there could be hundreds of other people reading of ways to earn/retain status, but I'd say the large majority of WP etc would have earned it through weekly flying domestically or lots of international flights in J.

I maintained WP on QF this year just on MEL/SYD weekly commute - from my pocket. I did have a few work trips thrown in but a small percentage of the total 1800 odd SC's I earned (ends this month).

My new FiFo in J will have me at WP1 easily with enough time to have a shot at VA Plat again in 2013

Over a dozen posts have been deleted, generally for being off topic- please stick the discussion of Double SC's and their effect on the QFF program.

It works well with your SC year with starting the new job.

Hope you are going to travel in Full hi Viz

As a male flyer I did not get the Double Status Credits promotion back in June .....

My girlfriend, got the offer. Too bad she's in London for the rest of the year and could not make any trips on Qantas.

Feper,
I appreciate quite a number of your posts, though please can you ever consider to be more cautious in not to offend. We all have & can share our opinions, without prejudice, but at times, I always feel that you are on the 'offensive foot" to try to prove your inabilities..
Sorry, I never want to offend, as we all have different ideals, especially when it becomes to travel & preferences, but I feel quite offended to your unisex characterised posts for one & many others.. & also the hurtful nature that you have provoked to the valued members of AFF.
So, TBH, this post, simply gains my vote.

And this is what I normally would have done, but for the late change and the WP having already checked in online or something, so I had no choice but to ask them direct, unfortunately they were quiet rude and said no.

Oh, you had a choice alright. To display good manners, or not .....

By the way, were they "rude" at a very low volume?

The OP would seem to be on the right airline to deal with their "needs", can only chuckle at the thought of one of the veteran 747 QF FAs dealing with them over the DYKWIA-seat incident

Re: WP for the first time ever

Well actually yes, this is something that QF should look at, at SQ if I am wait listed J, they will guarantee me a Y seat on that flight, I would like to see QF extend this so that CL and P1 are guaranteed a J seat, even if it means punting someone off

Gee, from what you described, you weren't wait-listed - you changed your flight. Big difference there - they had booked, checked-in and boarded and yet you still insist that seat is yours, (or that they be offloaded) to accommodate you, and you alone?

I never really thought the DYKWIA truly existed - guess I was wrong! My bucks are minted the same as you - if I get 11F due to sheer luck of my booking (and you not flying that day) that's my good fortune and your loss for deciding to change the flight. Most people would suck it up and act with some dignity, rather than bumping the seat throughout the flight, just to **ss me off.

If you want a guaranteed seat - buy a first class ticket, or hire a private jet; Qantas want bums on seats and today's WP could be tomorrow's P1 (or even better CL!), so they aren't going to wait around for someone who may or may not take that seat, just because he thinks he "owns" it. . . . . .

DSCs aren't going to dent the lounges in a huge way, or take away our beloved seat access - they're a marketing ploy pure and simple to encourage Joe Public to choose the Red Roo over the Red V. (I'd be interested to see how many SG and under made it to WP from cashing in on this offer, as well as WP to P1!) P1 seat selection has eaten into WP selection, which in turn has eaten into SG etc etc - the seats are limited, the lounge access is not busy 24/7, and I hope that most P1s have a more open-minded attitude to flying than you do.

The majority of frequent flyers are just suckers dancing to the beat of their airline. Regardless of whatever you do you are generally being marketed to by Qantas and your decisions are being influenced by them.

They wouldn't offer double SC unless they saw something in it for themselves.

Now, who is being the rude one, at least I haven't stooped to personal insults.

And as I stated earlier, I saw on their BP that they were WP, if it had of been CL or even P1 then I probably wouldn't have had as much of a problem with it.

Where are the personal insults in the highlighted post below?

No offence, but someone refusing to move is hardly rude.

Your behaviour after this fact on the other hand is extremely rude and childish.

I am intrigued to know why you feel that this person should have moved for you at all. What gave you the right to ask them in person. Don't bring the gender into it as giving a seat up for a lady on the bus or train is not relevant at all considering everyone is allocated a seat on the plane.

Wow...
This is the most arrogant post I have read on this forum. Do things really come down to childish stroppy acts or is this just a joke - I'm hoping the latter. The person already selected that seat and as you said, you made a flight change at the last minute. I think you had a nerve to ask them to swap directly, but to think they are rude and bump them all because they got a seat they were entitled to. Sheesh.

Right. So they were rude to refuse to give up a seat that they were absolutely entitled to? And for that you "bumped" them during the night. I know it's pointless having this argument with a 13 year old, but if you tried that on me in real life you'd soon be snapped out of your little alternate reality.

Lucky it wasn't me because I would have bumped them back, right on the nose with my fist. Then probably with my knees in their chest and then double fists in the head. Maybe an overreaction but I did have a mine tell me they'd kill me once.

Can't believe this thread is 18 pages long and people are still having a go at this guy.

Talk about pack mentality, good to see the mods keeping it clean but it appears there are about 50 posters in this thread who are also wanna be mods.

If his views are so out there and he is so alone in his beliefs, why is there so many people bothering to reply, apart from jumping on the carcus to get their share of the wounded animal...

Incredulity

Re: WP for the first time ever

The use of the word "infested" is pejorative in this context, TonyHancock. They do have the right to sit there. They are human beings after all, and their status is irrelevant. They paid for economy seats alongside you, and they're getting an economy seat. If you have an issue with the behaviour of a person, then it's right to point it out. However, I've seen enough people of high status think that they are entitled to flout "flight ettiquette" because they're frequent flyers as much as I've seen people with no elite status flout the same.

People with no status in a commercial airline's frequent flyer program are not lesser people.

Emerald city is the mini cabin at the front of J, rows 11-13. It has been widely referred to here on AFF, particularly by WP's. My post, ending with the :p was somewhat tongue in cheek. It has appeared to me that initial seat selection in this mini cabin has been open to WP's and OWE's, hence the nickname "emerald city". When upgrade requests are processed it seems to me that WP's in this much sought after cabin are the ones who finish up in F leaving empty seats that need to be filled. Anecdotally these seats are filled with non status pax on the last day or so before travel.

My post was perhaps a little too subtle sideswipe at the WP's, myself included, who crave the exclusivity of "emerald city" only to find it is not as exclusive as it is supposed to be.

Actually I believe the first use of the emerald city term here was from a long standing member (mod?) who heard a fa refer to it as such... but happy to be corrected.

Isn't this really an across the board problem with platinum one. It all sounds exclusive. But the truth is that the lounge is full, there is someone else in my seat, I can't turf someone off a flight because I want a seat at the last minute.

Flying commercial seems to have its drawbacks.....
