Does Closing Beaches Make Any Sense?

I prefer saving lives and as many as possible.

Beaches in the USA? Many are closed due to CV 19. Fortunately many USA Officials have not waited for the slow acting Trump.
I note you don't address what I actually wrote.

You like savings lives by punishing groups.
President Trump and I like saving lives by punishing individuals and not acting hysterically by banning activities of nugatory consequence.

Thus for example, currently in the State of Victoria, my fellow recreational astronomers cannot do their favourite activity - namely individually jumping into their cars, driving to dark sky sites in the middle of the night (often to paddocks in the middle of nowhere, and sometimes near that beach I went to earlier today) pulling out their telescopes and astro-cameras, and observing the sky. The effect of that prohibition on the spread of coronavirus - absolutely zero.
Regards,
Renato

Exactly. And that's what's happening in places like China, Spain, Italy and the USA :(
That is not what is happening in those places.
As pointed out in that video I posted above - the petrie dish experiment was the Diamond Princess cruise ship - an older crowd stuck in a ship with the virus running amok in the worst possible cramped environment (with no sunlight obviously).

End result, 20% infected, 1% of the infected died.

Renato

The new Stage 3,

"We’re also telling Victorians – there are only 4 reasons to be out:
*shopping for what you need - food and essential supplies
*medical, care or compassionate needs
*exercise in compliance with the public gathering requirements
*work and study if you can’t work or learn remotely."

I complied with those rules, even though it was only Stage 2 earlier today.
Regards,
Renato

So what you really are saying is yes you were knowingly driving your car unnecessarily.

Driving to exercise was specifically stated as being an unnecessary trip.

Driving to exercise at a "nice" location was specifically given as an example of what not to do.

Going out to exercise means WALKING or CYCLING from your house/apartment/caravan etc.

Going out to exercise DOES NOT MEAN driving to other locations and then exercising there.

Wow a true DYKWIA. Just you and your bud saving the world. No wonder you are of the belief that community actions that are best for everyone don't actually need apply .

The POTUS has shown a distinct ability to bungle the CV19 situation .

Which beach are you going to drive to today?

Seems those Bondi backpackers have now caused some problems for the rest of us. That area has the highest numbers :

Pop-up testing for Bondi after 'outbreak in backpackers'
A pop-up COVID-19 testing clinic will open in Bondi, after an outbreak of the coronavirus in the area.
NSW Chief Medical Officer Dr Kerry Chant said there would be extra testing in various hot spots, including a pop-up site in Bondi as well as working with local GPs.
"There has been an outbreak in backpackers," Dr Chant said.
She said there needed to be extra testing where there is clear community transmission and areas of "active clusters".

To be fair to the government, and let's face it who'd want to be in government at the moment, that was on Saturday, the first day of the beach closures where over zealous policing was no doubt happening. Subsequently Daniel Andrews has clarified that walks on the beach are OK (in compliance with the new rules only 2 people et etc ) but sitting on the beach is not.

He has also clarified that people should not be driving to the beach. And by extension not taking public transport to get to the beach.

If you want to exercise, then you do so in spaces that you can walk or cycle to from your dwelling. If people were doing this then many beaches would not become too crowded. Though beaches like Bondi with large populations adjacent to them could remain a problem.

It was also not just some beaches that were closed , but also other public spaces where people were gathering and breaching the 1.5m rule. No doubt if people stop gathering and breaching the 1.5m rule then areas will get re-opened as long as they are not too popular. The beaches that were closed were closed due to these reasons and not just because they were beaches.

Some beaches were not closed because people were gathering at all. They were closed because the people who were gathering at other beaches would naturally have moved on to the ones adjacent or nearby. i.e not locals.

Agreed,it will definitely prevent most beaches from becoming crowded. I am actually looking forward to (at approximately 1pm on Easter Saturday) taking the 10 min walk down to our local beach, getting my feet wet (and probably freezing my backside off), and strolling back via the wild, never used back beach. If there's over zealous policing, would go straight to the back beach. 😀

You are selfish and clearly put your own needs before everyone else's. This is clear in thread after thread on this forum.

One of the many reasons why unnecessary trips should not be undertaken is in that in doing them things will sometimes go wrong. Cars break down, accidents happen etc etc. This then requires unnecessary contact with other people that then have to intervene. Using you car more often means that it also has to be refuelled etc. The more this is done the more opportunities there are for the virus to be spread.

I contrast your constant bleating of having to do your bit with the attitude of my own daughter. While you were driving around making an unnecessary trips and complaining about things like not being able to make more unnecessary trips she was saying good bye to my wife and I. She is treating CV 19 patients in the most dangerous of environments. Due to this she knows it is only matter of time before she catches CV 19 and as such has now isolated herself from all family and friends. I will not see her again till this is over. She has fears yes, but she is not hesitating to do what she knows is right. That makes me proud, but also sad. But your attitude is a disgrace. By today you should know better, but you continue to post what you do.

You are meant to be an adult. So please start to act like one and stop your constant complaining about what are very minor personal inconveniences like you are hard done by because you cannot stargaze for a while, or drive to beaches.

I for one, welcome Renato1's posts. They give clear insight into the views and agenda of one of the world's most powerful men. Otherwise I wouldn't be exposed that view at all, unless I started looking at and watching things I actively avoid.

A totally alarming high numbers of doctors, and I don’t know how many other allied health people have died. Our doctors and hospitals still do not have enough PPE even though the government keeps saying it’s coming, it’s coming. Still has not arrived.

I can understand frustration with self-centredness. Specially if your child was going off every day to deal with people who have Covid 19., completely has my sympathy.

Let's play nicely kids, no need for personal insults.

Not exactly a “foolproof” way of getting information. 😆

My daughter too is working in a hospital, she is in her last year as a post grad student but likely to be enlisted soon (they have already been told this is about to happen). It may reflect poorly on me but I can see no easy way to react 'nicely' to self entitled narcissists who feel that current medical and social measures should not apply to them.

In general I am a civil libertarian but it's readily obvious that in the current environment those seeking personal liberty despite medical advice are endangering the health and possibly lives of others. I can see no reason to be nice to them, in fact in less liberal times they might expect considerably more extreme reactions than a few harsh words.

No 😀

But provides a great insight into what a big chunk of people are thinking, and how they get their information.
Is there a right and a wrong source for information? Does anyone know the truth? Does everyone follow directives?

I think we are all adults and my source of information is as good as yours. Keep your eyes open. Don't ignore people as even a fool has useful information some of the time and that could be the time you need it.

I'm not sure I agree on some of these measures introduced because as @Renato1 rightly says we are punishing everyone for the mistakes of a few. I know these are tough times and I'm also terrified but how about getting serious on the actual offenders instead of just talking about it and putting fear into everyone.
