g'day

Do you earn SC when you fly using QFF classic awards in J class?

Thanks

Big Kev

SCs on award flights are only applicable for any Seat Awards booked after mid April this year. Given you can reduce an Any Seat Award to the classic level in points they are often the better choice where classics are available as you earn points back as well as SCs.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

No!

The QFF T&C's state that points and SC's are not earned when travelling on classic awards.

However, as posted you may earn for "Any Seat" awards which can cost similar points as the classic.

The amusing thing is that I have booked 'Any Seat' awards for LESS points than a Classic Award... except the 'Any Seat' award flight got me SC and 1000 min point.

So with carefully flight selection, the 'Any Seat' award flight can be a much better option.

Amusingly if you cancel an 'Any Seat' award flight, it gets turned into a dollar credit which hangs around in your 'My Bookings' panel until you use it.
(and which you can only use for the people named in the original booking)

and on the same token i am about to book some tickets on the Amex website which is 3,000 point cheaper than the classic award, not counting the points I will be getting for taking the flight.

Its something of a quirk in the system that the ASAs can be cheaper, for one of my destinations its the same price as leaving BNE to fly to the city then get a JASA ex the city to DRW, you get two extra flights and end up on the same plane ex BNE.

As for the refund situation, that the same as for any booking made online, the difference being for a JASA THE $$$ amount is paltry, you are better of cancelling and getting the 100% REFUND.

That will happen from time to time when there are sales on and is probably more of an anyseat scheme than the QF one since its not limited by having the classic level as the minimum points.

There is a good summary of the rewards options now on the QF website for the three points options when it comes to flights:

I have only ever seen these quirks when there are connecting flights involved. On straightforward point to point stuff, it all seems to comeout as one would expect.

yes, the amex option becomes quite good when QF have a sale on, plus all travel redemptions are rated at 10,000 points = $100 so it is easy to work out.. QF points plus pay is a lot higher.
