Disgraceful DYKWIA behaviour

The OP should have told this lawyer that when they ended up like the people on Lost that he was going to be fed to the invisible polar bear first.

Idiot. Also: he can't be too high flying if he's stuck down the back in Y.

Could be firm policy. I used to work for one of the big firms and the policy was to always fly in Y domestically.

Once again a thread attacking an innocent DYKWIA going about his business with minimal, well almost minimal fuss. The worst that could have happened was that his phone could have interfered with the aircraft controls and caused a crash, I'm sure he would have turned it off had there been a rapid, uninitiated, descent.

I don't understand the constant DYKWIA bashing on AFF.

:p

Touchy, touchy!

I think if you are considering a career in law (or politics, or selling just about anything) then a thick skin needs to be a pre-requisite.

But the self-importance is the issue here - not the vocation - and I think the best action to take after a polite reminder is to get the cabin crew to sort it out.

Same here, but that was for us low-flying worker bees - the real high-flyers would be the managing / high-profile partners who were in CL, in which case the original comment stands. Not truly a DYKWIA if they're not toting the black tags. ;)

Have seen this behaviour a lot lately, and find it really disappointing. On the other hand, I have no problem with people doing as they like after landing, as that is expressly permitted.

If only they had a way to block all signals from the coughpit.........

If only they had a way to block all DYKWIAs from the plane... (oops...TonyHancock excepted, of course :p)

Then again, if we had no DYKWIA anecdotes to relate this forum would be all the poorer for it.

I find it hard to believe he had network coverage halfway across Australia on a flight to Perth and was able to retrieve voicemails.

It is possible to reply to emails you have when in flight mode and they will be in the outbox ready to send once you have landed.... are you sure he was online with network coverage?

Obviously I couldn't ask him but the phone had a flashing red light when he was using it.

Sadly I'm not important enough that I have to be contactable at all times, even in flight. :(

One time I was paxing and on landing someone decided to pull out their phone and start reading their messages. A tap on the shoulder (no words spoken) managed to get them to put their phone away!
And here I was thinking it was OK to use the mobile phone after landing! Well that is what they keep telling me.

"If your phone is within reach you can switch it on now...."

so basically we are basing this entire thread on your assumption and no actual facts.

If we can't post on threads based on assumptions, half truths, or news limited stories (refer to first two categories) AFF may as well close up shop!

Of course they didn't get away with it.;):p
Of course Dr's get to bury their mistakes ... Lawyers have to live with them ...

Getting cabin crew involved is really the only way in these situations ... I'd bet there's be no HFL based DYKWIA when faced with a ban from travelling with the Airline - it would likely be more for than the one month and it's quite possible those 1½M QFF points would be forfeited!

I think you'll find that announcement comes after they have moved off the runway after landing.

Lawyers live with their mistakes for only a few moments -- till they are taken down to the cells to begin their sentence!
