Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I did SYD-BNE-TSV-BNE-SYD today. The CSM asked me what I was doing - I think she thought I was a "mystery shopper" which was quite funny.
I had 40 mins in Townsville - so went outside for a 20 minute walk. The weather was lovely! Wish I could have stayed there, rather than come back to Sydney weather!

I did SYD-BNE-TSV-BNE. Were you on qf516/974/975? I was in 2A, 3A then 1C...

No .. 501/970/971/533 (12 hours door to door).

I should have said the 970/971 CSM (who was very chatty and friendly)

Ahhh cool. I has three sets of crew. All very nice but not overly chatty. DRW tomorrow for me. 3 night jaunt haha

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Note that a return trip to the USA for $1400 plus a YUP type fare for $1100 can be done in three days and can earn 800+ SC's.

I recommend have lounge access before you start.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

One JASA run that has yet to be mentioned is MEL-xSYD-ADL

200 SCs for 32,000 pts and about $660 return with a points earn of about 5,500 for net 26,500 cost.

Not the cheapest $ wise but as I am usually points-poor it will help me make WP for the first time this year. I travel to ADL about once a month anyway, so not a genuine JASA run for me, but them's the breaks! :)

I've been trying to get a JASA through ADL for early May however, have found the flights to BNE to be very scarce at a good price. Is ADL a difficult port like HBA:?:

2 or 3 years ago they removed non-direct BNE-ADL bookings as "valid" alternatives to direct flights. I'm not sure what the proper terminology is, but basically a non-direct option cost roughly the same as buying 2 separate flights. I guess this limitation also affects ASAs

MEL-ADL gives me either SYD or CBR as an option with no points penalty.
ADL-NAN J does well via MEL,SYD or BNE as previously mentioned.

Thanks to Markis10 for the original post.

I think they're called "through fares" - but they are unusual, particularly when you end up paying less for both sectors than you would for just one (eg. MEL-SYD-CBR in J compared to MEL-SYD J on DJ)

I was looking for that fare and stumbled across this one (found a cheaper one later) but I noticed that QF81 SYD-ADL leaves from Int (perfect for a F Lounge run). Do many of these "Domestic leg" International flights pop up?

No international legs are not that common. QF81, 82, and 8 are about all.

Does JQ35 still operate MEL-SYD? Didn't it get changed?

I think JQ wasn’t mentioned as you can’t do them as part of JASA’s (that’s right isn’t it?), but there’s JQ35, JQ36 and JQ3 that’ll get you access to F lounges ;)

Both correct, I was only focused on QF flights. Probably because only QF gets double SC, which isn't a limitation for this thread so JQ also counts. There is also, I think, JQ 15 and/or JQ19 - basically SYD-CNS, SYD-OOL flights.

It's a pity as going through ADL seems to be the only way I can A)achieve 1200SC (DSC offer) in the one trip/3 days B)get home at a decent hour......looks like I'm going to fail in my quest:(

Lim not sure exactly what you mean by going through ADL, no doubt because I've forgotten what route you're looking at. Sounds like you want to transit in ADL rather than get to ADL. Certainly from ADL, and assume the golden triangle state capitals, CBR is a destination that allows decent transits.

BTW, I'm also looking for about that many SC with DSC.

I've got 920SC sorted with the following:-

JASA BNE-MEL-SYD = 200
FASA SYD-SIN-SYD = 720

So the target left is 280 and end back in BNE at a time that I can drive home & take the family out for dinner. Easy with SYD-MEL-ADL-BNE however, the points for the last sector are horrendous - could just be the day I want to travel.

No big deal - would have been nice to get WP in three days!

I'd suggest looking at CBR. ADL-CBR is worth 60 base. SYD-CBR-ADL-BNE will net 140SC base, there are about 1 or 2 direct CBR-ADL flights, I think there is a mid afternoon QF flight ADL-BNE that should work ok.

Actually, you might even be able to pull off a ADL-CBR-BNE combination add in SYD-ADL that will get 140 base.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

IIRC I did 1,120 SC (post doubling) in 3 days last year. Itinerary was:

Day 1: MEL-ADL (QF Y - positioning), ADL-xBNE-TSV
Day 2: TSV-xBNE-DRW, DRW-xBNE-TSV
Day 3: TSV-xBNE-xCBR-ADL, ADL-MEL (JQ - positioning)

Total cost of the JASA legs was 96,000 points and ~$900 and I could have done it for slightly~$200 less if it weren't for tight availability (again, all IIRC). Two nights in a cheap hotel in TSV cost about $130, plus there is of course some misc charges for taxis and food, etc.

Based on that 1,200 in 3 days should be doable - just using my itinerary, if the MEL-ADL and ADL-MEL had been JASAs it would have pushed up to 1,280.

JQ19 and JQ11 look promising for me, but only run on limited days :(
