Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

Didi went to the vet yesterday for her annual checkover and injection. Vet impressed by her shiny 11yo coat, good teeth etc and asked what we feed her.
Was a bit surprised when I said that in addition to canned Whiskas she eats pumpkin, carrots, cabbage, lettuce and avocado and does a good job on a chop bone or lamb shank. . I didn't tell him about the biscuits cheese chips etc.

Well, daughter's cat (FF in above post) has been quite poorly this week. Has a massive infection of some kind though kidneys and bladder seem to be fine according to bloods and ultra sound. She was transferred last Monday night to the emergency clinic for monitoring overnight and then back to her usual vet on Tuesday. She had improved somewhat so came home Tuesday night. Antibiotics seem to be helping, Still pretty miserable though and only eating a little.

Hope FF feels better soon!
We are in the process of getting our heater loving (thread starting) ragdoll assessed for our move to Singapore. She needs to pass to be allowed to fly. It was a bit confronting to be told she needed a geriatric assessment, we still think of her as a kitten (even though she was 4 when we got her).

The newest member of our household - Chester! A workmate identified me by the invisible ‘sucker’ tattoo on my forehead when she asked ‘do you know anyone who would like to adopt a cat with only three paws?’ Not sure how Chester lost his left paw, the vet thinks a rabbit trap but we suspect it may have been human inflicted as he is not shy but becomes terrified at the sight of workboots. Vet astounded he survived the injury as there would have been massive blood loss and it has healed without medical intervention. It’s been a slow process but he is now integrating well with our other 4 ratbags and they seem to be acutely aware that he is disabled and give him his space. He gets around amazingly well albeit with a lopsided limp.

Daughter’s news is not great. FF is still in vet hospital and has just had a biopsy of liver, spleen and intestine. Results not till after the weekend. There really is no cure for lymphoma and it will be a decision about her quality of life. :(

Love Chester! 3 legged animals can do well, a friend has had a three legged dog for years and years, and has coped well, good luck and Chester is probably so glad you have an invisible "sucker" tatoo on your forehead.

l_t_l, so sorry, I really hope that it turns out ok.

Have been thinking of FF and wondering how kitty has been getting on. And you/ your daughter - I am all too familiar at the moment with the roller coaster of emotions of vet visits, tests etc so understand how exhausting it can be.

Making the decisions re quality of life is the most selfless thing we can do as pet owners and I have never met anyone who has regretted making the decision a day too early vs a day too late.

As it is the time to think of getting the Christmas tree, but the cough can't be trusted, these people have the answer:

Sadly FF was put to sleep. Heartbreaking for daughter but she knew it was the only choice for her. She is devastated though as Seamus, the other cat, disappeared well over a week ago and it’s the not knowing that is so hard. We found it difficult not being able to support her but we have a good friend who helped to look for Seamus and also took daughter to the vet hospital to see FF and was there when she said goodbye.
