Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

Any progress on the cat issue? What happened with the beetle?

I decided against putting the cup in the litter tray, mostly because I watched him and he digs a lot and figured the cup would just end up being knocked over. But he hasn't peed on the cup for ages, though discovered last night that he'd peed on/next to the placemat we have on the floor where his food bowl goes. Honestly, this cat. Haha.

As for the Beetle, it sounds like it's going to be repaired, but parts are looking like 4-5 weeks. But I have the hire car from AAMI for that duration so it's not so bad. I mentioned I was going overseas in a week's time for a week and arranged for us to drop the hire car at the airport and to pick up a new one when we got back. Saves AAMI a week of hire car fees, and saves us a taxi ride to/from the airport!

Who is minding Earl while you are away? Will he pine? I know of people who can't get the luggage out to pack until right at the end as their cats get very stressed and some even pee in the cases!

We've got some friends round the corner who are going to come round and check on him. He's actually pretty good with us going away, no peeing on suitcases here. Which considering his peeing habits, is kind of surprising, haha.

When are you off? Mustn’t be long now. Will be much warmer than here luckily!

She is quite a dear. Now as I am lying on the bed she is curled up behind my knees.

She hasn't always been this lovey-dovey but has really changed to be like this since I retired and spent more time with her. She follows me around like a dog would, sitting with me if I am doing things outside or gardening.

If she is outside by herself she sometimes starts screaming and only stops when I talk to her. Doesn't particularly need to come inside but just seems to want to know she isn't home alone. She seems to be quite a well adjusted cat and goes off to stay at my daughter's with her children and boxer dogs when we go away, without appearing to be fazed by it.

They are all beautiful and have such personalities. We are cat-less now and do miss not having one but it is not practical really. :(

Keep your balcony door closed? Enclose your balcony with netting?
A bit hard - we have a wintergarden and are basically in the parliamentary triangle so covering the area would certainly not be allowed. There are pets here though. Previous owners on Level 5 used to have a cat named Tibbles, who was enormous, and used to wait at the lift to go back up after fire alarms. There are also quite a few (small) dogs in the building.
The other problem is we are often away so it becomes problematic for minding.

I know I only just introduced you to Earl, but what I didn't say is that he was suffering from kidney failure (hence all the peeing issues we've had over the years). He'd been slowly getting worse these past few months, but didn't want to share that with you in my first post about him, a little too depressing! Anyway, he must have known to hold on til we were back from Hong Kong before letting us know it was time. He was put to sleep this morning. We had him for 6 years. He was a good cat and we'll miss him very much.

So sorry to hear that, terrible news, never an easy thing to do and I feel for you and what you are going through.

:(

So sorry to hear this. He was a beautiful boy and yes, you will miss him I’m sure. They know when it’s their time and do let us know I firmly believe. :( Thinking of you and MrD.

Sorry to hear that - though I did wonder from your post if there was an underlying issue. I'm glad you got to say goodbye though. Many hugs.

Sorry to hear about Earl.
Last weekend we went to the National Cat Show in qld.
It was the first time I have seen all the popular breeds along with some very rare breeds in the one place.
A sphynx cat was the most amazing creature , it had a quite haunting and unworldly expression straight out of star wars.
Anyone ever owned one ?
We really enjoyed the visit but the prettiest cat was waiting at the door when we came home … :-
