Sorry about all my blah, Markis10.
I will now go and hide.

hahaha. nah, i think what you posted is good and informative. IMO, using frequent flyer points overseas is not really worth using or practical should i say since you pay huge taxes. i would rather use them for my domestic travels with its cheaper taxes. I will just save more money to buy early bird airfare tickets (which is far cheaper than sale tickets) than use my ff points, and yes i was able to save more than 100K ff points before but when i used them for an urgent and short family trip overseas, i was surprised with the taxes i need to pay. Oh well, i can only wish and hope i can be elevated to a gold pretty soon. Thanks Australiapoochie

Dont write off points for flights - Business/First Class awards and upgrades are the best value when redeeming

(Just Say 'No' to the QFF Toaster!)

EDIT: Flying any airline on One World these days, after July 14, you will earn very little Qantas Frequent Flyer points, and fewer Status Credits, Status Credits being the most important thing these days.
Next time, if you have to or want to fly to the United Kingdom, forget British Airways, which is now passe.
Book and fly Emirates with a Qantas flight number, via Dubai.
This will earn you the most Qantas Frequent Flyer points, and also more Status Credits.
Not everyone here has status-chasing as their sole or primary objective. Some travellers have the cost of the airfares as a more central consideration. It may be difficult to justify paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars more just to pick up more status credits.

Im trying to calculate the status credit i can get from ADL to Dallas Texas, San Francisco to ADL but i cant seem to find it in Qantas website.

I believe the Qantas website will only indicate points and status credits accrued on flights that they operate, and so San Fransisco to Adelaide won't appear as QF don't fly to SF.
The Qantas sectors would be lax to Syd (or mel) and onwards to adl, so to calculate the sfo to lax points and status credits you would have to search elsewhere, maybe mileage monkey, or be advised my a more knowledgable contributor on this site, of which there are many!

The new calculator allows you to select the airline operating the sector.

Absolutely, 2000 in one year, 70 this year, SC's are now my least target, points to get J flights are #1, SC's irrelevant.

Last one from me on this:
SFO to LAX=800 QF FF miles and 10 QF SC. QF flight code, min points guarantee. DiscY.
LAX to SYD=4500 QF FF miles and 45 QF SC. Miles flown, closest to reality I guess. DiscY.
SYD to ADL=800 QF FF miles and 10 QF SC. QF flight code, min points guarantee. DiscY.

Hi all - thought I'd drag up a relevant older thread rather than starting a new one. ;)

I know that everyone whom is not QFF Gold and above will get this letter/email after a while.

My question is that given the withdrawal and gradual erosion of QC membership benefits and the lack of any commensurate price drops for the lack of lounges and closing times incompatible with flying JQ I was wondering if anyone has a contact person or any suggestions about how to get a discount on paid Qantas Club membership. In my case they have Jetstarized some of my common routes, I travel HLO and they have removed the Qantas Club from T2 in SYD - thus making my paid QC membership a bit useless/uneconomic to maintain. I will be writing a polite letter/email outlining all these benefits that I can't use but was just wanting to know are there any obvious enhancements that I've missed as far as paid QC membership over the last few years? I think the other "big" ones were the withdrawal of access to BA lounges, loss of access to EK lounges but AA Admirals Club still OK? Any other enhancements that I have missed?

Cheers

Yep - I may look at that thanks. So thats a discount of $90 per year from Qantas Club membership fees (renewal) if my maths is correct?

But I was after a list along the lines of "here is a list of the benefits Qantas Club Members have lost - so here is what I think I should pay to keep my QC membership considering the X number of places where I can't use it now compared to Y (in say 2010)." and then see what the QF response is, after all, was thinking it couldn't hurt to try?

I will give it a go and report back with a result.

p.s. just thought of another point of leverage - my home port in TSV will be getting a VA lounge in a few years time (which should be free for me unless things change), so will be making the point that QF can't really hold a gun to my head on the loyalty front or attempt to argue that "we have the only airline lounge in Townsville" argument.

You do know that you can just walk across and use the facilities in T1 don't you. I do this all of the time. Hardly a hassle.
