I received an email this week stating that the Velocity T&Cs were being updated and that, from 28 November, accounts which have been inactive for more than 8 consecutive years may be closed. The email wording was:

To be considered inactive, a member would have no activity involving:
  • earning Velocity Points or Status Credits, including as the Beneficiary of a Family Pool;
  • contributing to a Family Pool; or
  • redeeming or transferring Velocity Points.
Accounts may be closed if they do not meet any of the above conditions.
When an account is closed, any remaining Points, Status credits and Member benefits will be forfeited. Any Family Pooling or linked account relationships will also end.
Once an account is closed, it will not be able to be reactivated

I have a Family Pool consisting of Mrs Rebus and our two children. The children's accounts were established in 2016 and 2019. Neither child has earned points during that time as their travel has been exclusively on reward seats. The same may also be true for Mrs Rebus.

I need to find a way to prevent their accounts from being deemed inactive as we have a paid trip early next year on which all members of the Family Pool will earn points and SCs. The pooled SC should help me to retain WP.

I had considered manually transferring some points to each account but am unsure if that meets the criteria of 'earning Velocity points....including as the Beneficiary of a Family Pool'. The points wouldn't be 'earned', they would be gifted.

I'd be grateful for any insight as to what I could do to prevent the accounts from being closed. I suppose I could wait to see what happens and then simply create new accounts and update the Family Pool but that all seems like unnecessary admin.
