Discounted Qantas Club membership

Hi all

This is my first post...ever (in case i missed previous post or response). I'll be travelling around the world next year (travelling several times via British airways) and i was hoping to maximize this experience by signing up with the Qantas Club, it looks like i just missed out their promo few months ago. has anyone got tips when or how to sign for a discounted membership?

Just to avoid disappointment, a Qantas Club membership isn't much help flying BA.

Qantas Club is seperate to Oneworld Lounge Access. You may have more luck trying the AA Admiral Club membership, but QP membership is basically for QF and AA lounge access when flying on QF or AA in a nutshell.

To gain Oneworld Lounge membership you basically need to gain the appropriate status level.

Cannot seem to see the link you posted, but if it refers to BA lounge access; that has since ceased around the same time the BA/QF Joint Services Agreement (JSA) was abandoned some time ago now.

I can assure you the the response from BA will not be any different to what you have already been advised by other posters. Qantas Club membership only provides access to Qantas lounges (or Emirates lounges in Dubai/Australia), and some AA lounges whilst travelling on a QF or JQ-coded flight.

You can always buy once off entry to a number of lounges or check out if a Priority Pass card will get you in where you plan to go.
 
As soon as I can get to my laptop I will send you the details of getting Qantas Club membership via AFF in case you decide that is the way you want to go.

I was thinking that since i frequently travel anyways (domestic), maybe its still not too bad to get a qantas club especially if I'm flying Qantas from Australia to USA with extra luggage allowance which is usually $100+ per addtl piece.

For Australia to United States, if flying Qantas (or American Airlines as mentioned above), all the way, to the West Coast of the United States, then its worth getting Australian Frequent Flyer affiliated Qantas Club (QP, thats what we call it).
You join now Australian Frequent Flyer either as free or a donation of $35 a year, if you go Australian Frequent Flyer Gold for $50 a year, you get $150 off as a discount, rather than going directly with QF. Paying Australian Frequent Flyer $50, from $200, gives you a net benefit of $150. You then join Qantas Club as an Australian Frequent Flyer affiliate of a corporate scheme.
If you fly with Qantas a lot, (to climb up the Qantas ladder), from S*um Gold (Qantas status Gold upwards-you get free Qantas Club access), under that, you pay.
I have visited the Sydney Qantas Business Class lounge at Sydney International Airport, several times, and its worth it.
Priority Pass is like a club, where you pay either a single fee for access or an annual fee, but its not linked to an airline. Its more so a money making venture.
Going for Qantas Club/Priority Pass/Koru Club (Air New Zealand), or the other airline lounges, is an expensive option, unless you travel a lot, Qantas Australia domestic, or Qantas international, to make it worthwhile by many entries into the Qantas Club.
EDIT: Flying any airline on One World these days, after July 14, you will earn very little Qantas Frequent Flyer points, and fewer Status Credits, Status Credits being the most important thing these days.
Next time, if you have to or want to fly to the United Kingdom, forget British Airways, which is now passe.
Book and fly Emirates with a Qantas flight number, via Dubai.
This will earn you the most Qantas Frequent Flyer points, and also more Status Credits.
AFF speak: ADL to MEL is only 10 SC in discY, so you need to make 70 one way trips a year from ADL to MEL to get up to QF SG, or 35 returns.
If you fly flexJ, you need less trips, to get to SG.
If you want to go to New Zealand, fly with JetConnect, but avoid flying Jetstar unless you pay a bit more to go Plusbundle.

Thanks so much for your valuable input. I understand that i have to fly certain number of flights within membership year and i only learned recently my membership anniversary thats my some of my travels was not credited to reach the tier level im after. Im trying to calculate the status credit i can get from ADL to Dallas Texas, San Francisco to ADL but i cant seem to find it in Qantas website.

Im interested in the AFF, where can i get the link for that please? or should i just signed up and they will provide me with the link for the Qantas Club? Cheers
 
You will need about 250,000 or even more to get from Adelaide to Dallas.
You can do points plus pay, if you have more than 5,000 Qantas points.
Go for Australian Frequent Flyer Gold, I think you can send a message to "admin" who on here, looks after that side of the Australian Frequent Flyer Qantas Club corporate scheme.
I am not an Australian Frequent Flyer "official" and before I get my dog bum kicked, best you contact the people in the know.
Send "admin" a Private Message and she or he will get back to you for the rates, $50 first and the other details. I do believe its "admin" here on Australian Frequent Flyer, think I have communicated with that handle on here, old dog, not good memory anymore.
Adelaide to Dallas, you have to do a break in journey in Sydney to see how many points you will earn or need.
The Qantas website does not allow a lot of points collection/usage in regards to Adelaide. Seeing that Adelaide does not have any Qantas international flights anymore!
You will need a lot of points, not status credits.
Status credit allow you to climb up the Qantas or Virgin tree, but in itself, only gives you benefits, but will not get you flights. Thats a different kettle of fish.
The two are separate.
Frequent flyer points, is the one you need mainly.
Roughly how many frequent flyer points do you have? 100,000. Start with that. If you have that much, points plus pay is a good way if you have to get to the US soon. Other wise, start building or bulking up your frequent flyer points, by flying, by spending on cards etc.
To summise, you will need a lot of points to get to the United States, with just paying taxes.
If you must/need to fly to the United States with a date in mind, points plus pay, where you use a mix of frequent flyer points and pay a bit or a lot on the card (credit card).
Adelaide to Auckland, might be say, $2200 in business. I will need 36,000x2 (72,000) frequent flyer points if I don't want to pay a lot, just pay taxes.
But I could also use points plus pay to reduce $2200 to say, $1800, by using up my 32,000 Qantas frequent flyer points in my balance.
Status credits don't come into play here.
I have 575 Qantas status credits, which I can't use to pay for the flight, but by December 14, I would have 715 Qantas status credits, which gives me Qantas S*um Gold, giving me access to any of the Qantas lounges in Sydney or Auckland.
Its complicated.
But you will learn!

That was my cut and paste, might be bad of me to do it.
Thought it was more than 136,000 points, but thats it.
If you have more than that number of Qantas frequent flyer points in your account good, if not, points plus pay is the way to go.
Sydney to Dallas in discY one way is 4,500 Qantas frequent flyer points earnt, and 45 Qantas status credits, Adelaide to Sydney is 800 points earnt, and 10 status credits.
So, in discY, you will get 10,600 points earnt, and 110 status credits.

Its a bit slow in getting to where you need it go, but be patient, and the calculator will come up. Remember, its all via Sydney.
Have to go earn my keep now, the others will kick me on here, they are more knowledgeable, and probably will be better and to the point.
