Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Absolute rubbish at my local DM tonight. Just got some 'half price' kay brothers.

Was about to get a price match on the Mt Mary I'd got at our other DM, when the duty manager from earlier in the week who'd baulked at it showed up again... so I conceded with a smile that it was worth a try! Bah, who'd have thunk he'd work Mondays and Saturdays.

Anyhoo, we got to talking and he said they'd put up a few cabs and other reds during the week but it didn't seem like they were doing a big clearance like others seem to be doing based on posts to this thread that are making me jealous!.. seems like each shop has some autonomy about what they put up.

I’d say you are about a month too late unfortunately. I bought a bunch of WB Black and some other things (premium and not) at good pricing, but it went quickly
This was FC Braddon, which I've been in a few times over the past month and I'm not sure is ever much chop (but could be wrong of course)... which shop are you talking about?

I got some at Braddon and more at Belconnen. The Braddon guy said a lot had already gone. But agree, it didn’t seem as ‘generous’ as some of the other FC stores around

Oh, ok. What sort of thing and what sort of discount? (Besides WB black that is...)

Fox creek JSM 2016 $10
Ayala No.8 Brut Rose $30
Oakridge 864 Syrah 2018 $30
Rolf Binder Bulls Blood 2012 $20
Lethbridge Ménage a Noir 2018 $15
Pretty good deals there. My local Dan's (3 close to me) never really have clearance items except for the stuff that ends in .88c. So annoying that each store is so different. They even generally cost more for normal pricing compared to other DM stores.
Are these on shelf or in a special clearance section?

Moss Wood Cabernet, Bannockburn Serre Pinot, Molldooker two left feet and some cheaper reds and random whites. Discount from 50% - 70%ish. Not massive range, enough to get a few things

Are these in NSW?

When I worked in retail it was a sackable offence to buy clearance items until a certain number of days to avoid the "what's the point if employees grab everything and sell it on ebay?" argument (Dick Smith employees of old were well renowned for it). Ways around it of course, but not a good image for the company brand.
Went back to Dan's to pick up a few more bottles.

They had Mount Pleasant Maurice O'Shea Shiraz for $75. Its pushing for what i like to pay for any wine, but does that sound like a good price? Think it may have been the 2009?

As well as 2013 Mount Langi Ghiran Langi Shiraz for $80, and 2008 Sorby Adams The Thing for $70 i think
Mate sounds like you found yourself a gold mine!!!
O’Shea is 250-300 at cellar door!
Langi is my personal favorite,$80 is close to what you can get from an Auction.
The Thing is about $55-$70 With under wrap.
Do you think you can ask your local DM to keep 2 bottle of O’Shea for me, and I will pick it up next week? :)

DMs around ne are pretty rubbish as well.
The worst thing is, you can’t call the store directly to find out what is on before going!!

All clearance items were arranged in shopping trolleys around the counters. Most people were only interested in the very cheap wines < $10 which quite a few of them were on clearance (nothing there that I found interesting).

Nothing at Dan's Thornleigh (SYD). Might try a couple of other Dan's near me. VC Beecroft and FC North Rocks are again, a waste of time.

For the Canberrans, anything decent at Dan's down there? Might save me a trip driving to CBR Airport, Tuggs and Phillip...

I can safely say there's nothing at Dan's Belconnen (last night) and Airport (this morning). It's a tiny bit peeving that there's such great stuff elsewhere. I'd lap up the Langi and O'Shea that others have mentioned. I'd even pay a modest premium for someone to grab me some and post... anyone?

Dan's Deception Bay in QLD had a huge clearance yesterday. Shopping trolleys at the front and then a section at the back. Fraser Gallop Parterre 2014 for $18, grant Burge Balthazar for $18, Glaetzer Anaperenna 2016 for $25, $20 for Killikanoon Covenant 2016, Pennies Bin 311 Chardy for $18 also, around $10 for paringa estate peninsular Pinot, Lethbridge menage a noir, and Kay brothers basket pressed Grenache. A bunch of other random deals on spirits also, and some nice looking German wines.

I cleared out the Parterre and Glaetzer, but everything else was available when I left, and they seemed to be brining more stock from out the back.

I'd visited three other Dan's on the same day and nothing going on.

I think we've definitively established that whether one's local Dan's or FC has massive bargains is a complete lottery. As is whether a Dan's will be lax or strict on the price match policy... hooray for non-globalisation!
