How do I know which colour the store is going to be haha?

I had the same question.

Google images? :p

I had an interesting conversation about that with one of the city store managers who said in a not very politically correct way “if you want to find more premium wines on clearance you need to look further in the suburbs where people buy mostly Jim Beam and beer.”

In Brisbane most (if not all) stores around the city are yellow. The blue ones are mostly in suburbs and they indeed have more premium stock on sale.

The Yellow stores are listed as First Choice Market on google maps.

And we're probably a beer suburb, so they dont even stock the higher end wines :p

I had a similar experience, working class suburb, plenty of stock. I was fascinated that old mate still went for the cask wine when you had quality like mojo and stocks hill for 5 bucks each.

Maybe hes thinking of the kids? I have some faint memories of kicking the old Goon Bag around as a kid...But I think the old 'fluity lexia' may also have been what put me off exploring wine again until I was in my 40's 😊

I love the DM in our Beer & Burbon subburn, always find some old vintage wines at standard prices.

Dan Murphy's are offering 4 x Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2017 with a bonus twin pack of Riedel glasses for $150. Less with gift cards.

I opened a bottle today and think this will be sensational in 5-10 years.

So great news! I went to my local Vintage Cellars (Brisbane CBD) and the girl agreed to price match one 2016 Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay for the $60. Had a $25 rewards club voucher for $35 for arguably Australia’s best white wine.

Then I went to Lutwyche First Choice and they had some more. Showed them my receipts but they wouldn’t price match because it was clearance. She even rang Mt Gravatt to confirm their $60 price and still wouldn’t do it because she didn’t want to get in trouble. I gave up on arguing and thought Mt Gravatt might have better wines on clearance anyway. Mt Gravatt was 2015 but I really wanted 2017. Googled 2015 and apparently it’s even better (Read here). Got to Mt G and got 3 bottles for $60 each.

Total of $215 for 1x 2016 and 3x 2015.

i’ve bought about 48 bottles now I reckon so o should probably stop.

That’s my story thanks for listening.

For anyone playing along in NSW, the First Choice in Sylvania had none of the higher end wines on discount. Was passing through that way last night so stopped in hoping for some Art Series...alas walked out with nothing.

CM mystery shiraz looks to be Zonte’s Footstep Lake Doctor
With a $50 voucher etc should be a good sub $10 quaffer

I've had some great success in Brisbane. I spoke to one employee and asked if they were reordering any more stock and he said they had tried but most orders were getting bounced so I think that is it. I just had another look at Newstead this morning and it is basically all gone except for the odd cheap sauv blanc etc.

My purchases;

15 Art Series chard $60
18 Pierro chard $50
16 & 17 Turkey Flat Shiraz $30
15 Te Mata Awatea $20
16 Wirra Wirra RSW $30
18 Grosset Polish Hill $30
16 & 17 Henschke Julius $20
18 Clonakilla Riesling $20
14 Tyrrells Belford Sem $20
13 Rolf Binder Bulls Blood $20
17 Cullen Cab Merlot $20
13 Grace Farm Reserve cabernet $30 (Vintage Cellars)
