Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

...Ive found DM secret description seem to be full or errors lately. Maybe that allows them to ship more the a single wine (ie. the Hares chase, both Ironscraper and the 'Hares Chase Shiraz' shipped for same product.)
So, on a similar note there is a possibility this may also be Hares Chase Ironscraper... Mind you, thats really not a bad thing is it? Sure the Ironscraper 2013 is 14%alc but does that ever line up with DM? And 'Original Price' on DM fluctuates more then the weather we've had recently. In the end the higher 'original price' DM puts on, the more CR you get back $14.90 is generally the low point DM sell Ironscraper for also.

Note the similarities:

Yep, I just managed to grab some 2015 Woods Crampton Old John from cracka for $9 a bottle, as they dropped the price while still keeping a code active (they fixed price before others could benefit) Then the next day boomed on 2016 Old John from CM with a $50 voucher for $10 a bottle.... happy camper

So, if it's Ironscraper, they have marked it as a Cellar Release and bumped the "old" price by $6 since they last offered it at $39.99 as a non-secret wine 3 months ago, and got the a/v% wrong.

The deep discount would fit Ironscraper better than TF, they have the 2016 Ironscraper @ $35->$12.90

Anything is possible, but does the Ironscraper have a selling price of $45.99? I know that it's a 'cellar release' so it's open to change, but if Dan's have pumped up the price like that, it makes them look like Vinomofo in the truth stakes...

I'm just looking forward to see what turns up, it will probably be like Christmas as a kid, when I was hoping for a remote control car, and instead got a pen and some undies....

Yeah, sounds like a nice wine and the style is right in my wheelhouse. Looking forward to trying it. As much as I enjoy lighter styles(and get enticed by the reviews..), so often when I venture into the cellar, the first thing I'm looking for is a Barossa Shiraz....

I prefer Alternative (and affordable to me) rather than Equivalent.

Grange replaced by the likes of Standish, Kalleske, Wild Duck Creek
Bin 707 replaced by various Margaret River Cabernets
St. Henri replaced by Sons of Eden, Spinifex, Trevor Jones Sorciere Sauvage, Yangarra Ironheart, Wirra Wirra RSW
Bin 389 no direct alternative for me, I don't buy Yalumba Signature either due to cork aversion, maybe Wolf Blass Grey Label Cabernet Shiraz.
Bin 407 I've never liked this line, many other Cabernets I prefer, mostly from WA
Bin 128 not usually my style either, heaps of alternatives
Bin 28 heaps, Kalleske Greenock, Dutschke, Gibsons, Tim Smith, Head Wines, John Duval, Langmeil Orphan Bank, anything from Marius, Mr Riggs, Olivers Taranga, St Hallett Blackwell, Teusner Albert, Turkey Flat

its nice of you to put all those better wines to match bin 407, bin 28 and bin 128, i would of just put mike press shiraz and cabernet. there is not much wine that could replace bin 389, not because of the blend, its the oak.

I've never understood the infatuation with Mike Press wines, they just are not my style at all. I've bought a fair number of single bottles based on rave reviews and never bought more of any of them. Nothing bad, just not interesting to me.
But the people that do like them have a dead set bargain I guess.

Back in the late '70's, early 80's my Monday Tasting Group (it's still going) used to buy a dozen Bin 389 (at under $10pb) and use it as a control wine in blind tastings. The odd thing was that over the period of 6-12 months it gradually dropped down the rankings, I never really worked out why that was.
The last time I bought 389 it was about $40pb for the 2006.

i have bits and pieces of mike press wines since 05, i think 09 was the vintage that everyone started to jump in, you are right about the wine is not that interesting but it is a good wine(better version of jacobs creek?)

when you have too much of 1 particular wine and you kept on having a tasting section that has other wines, there must a voice telling you "stop drinking the same damn wine".

You are totally off the mark here. Currently have a 2016 Mike Press shiraz open, it's good, a super vibrant young Adelaide Hills Shiraz....absolutely amazing value for the money(went the 4 Doz for $400). I would recommend it to anyone at the price point.

Never assume your taste is the same as that of someone else or that what you like is an absolute.

I respect your preference and appreciation of Mike Press wines, I just don't have the same opinion.

But we are both right.

Personal preference is all that matters.

I never recommend a wine to someone I don't know without asking them about what their current favourite wines are.

red just didn't found the wine interesting, it is a matter of preference, some people prefer seppelt chalambar(at $16.50) over mike press too. or even hunter shiraz which i prefer over any other regions shiraz.

They are price matching, but not the quality. Some of them overripe, the body is not as thick as rwt.

Fair point and we all have different palettes, but if you can show me a better wine for the $8 or so that I paid for the Mike Press, I'd love to hear about it. Even at the retail of $15 it's great VFM........but as you say, we all have different tastes and life would be boring if we all thought the same.....

I might be able to find another $8 red that I prefer, but you probably wouldn't, I don't find many $8 reds agreeable drinking, although some un-heralded Glug reds at $8-$12 I would much rather drink than the Mike Press wines.

Palette = a thin board or slab on which an artist lays and mixes colours.
Pallet = a straw mattress or a flat transport structure, which supports goods in a stable fashion while being lifted by a forklift
Palate = a person's ability to distinguish between and appreciate different flavours.

before i found out about mike press, i used to buy this "gramps shiraz" from danmurphy for less than $10, as well as rosemounts traditional and some diamond range around the same price range. wynns white label shiraz and the sliding cab are also around the $12-$15 mark.

there are other wines at that price range which are all worth a try.

The last year ive stocked up with Blue Pyrenees Estate Red at under $8, Cramptons around $9, Reynella Cellar around $4, Dandelion/Heirloom around $7-9. Wynns Black Label, and Leconfield Cab at sub $15. Its hard to consider a $15rrp wine with those bargains around.

Mind you, I'm always happy to pay that little extra to support my favorites, such as Epsilon, straight from the winery.

How did you manage the Pyrenees at under $8? My best was $15.57/btl

Just rechecked orders. Blue Pyrenees was actually closer to $10 (using $50 voucher + CR) $8 was actually for the Pertaringa Undercover with EWJ46K code.

I flinched when Penfolds 707 was $280. Now it has moved to $600 so I pass.
Cullen’s and Moss Wood have replaced that one.
