Quite a different wine to the 2011. It is much younger however. There is sweetness on the attack and marked acidity on the back palate. There are dusty tannins in support, so it should all come together with time. The flavour profile of the 2013 is towards the sweeter end of the spectrum, loosing some of the seductive savoury core of the 2011. The flavours are strongly in the blackberry, black cherry and cassis spectrum, with only a hint of the raspberry from the 2011. Secondary complexity is still a little laking at this stage of its development, with hints of cigar box, liquorice and spice present. Very nice, but really needs more time. A 90/100 on CT from me.

By the way, it was wine #12 at the Sydney May meet-up, if you still have your notes, or memory handy. :)

The wine section of the AFF forum has ruined any thoughts I may have held of pursuing some personal savings..:D

Yep, saw that as well. Used the code to stock up on d'Arenberg Dry Dam Riesling 2015 and Custodian McLaren Vale Grenache 2012 and an aggregated price of $13.17 per bottle.
 
Right, 3 of us had a bottle of Hoddles Creek Estate Pinot Noir 2015, and a bottle of Top Paddock Pinot Noir 2015.
Blind tasting.

First observation: the bottles and caps were identical apart from the label on the bottle and the frog image on the cap.
The wine couldn't be distinguished by looking at it in the glass, swirling it around etc.
The nose was pretty much the same, nothing distinguishable. Palate : concensus was that the top paddock was slightly more 'dirty', the estate more silky.
But there wasn't much in it.
 
I did buy a dozen 2014 Diana Madeline from Cullen's so I have something nice to take to dinner with friends.
I did want a dozen 707 Penfolds but at $2880 for 6 my arms did not reach my pocket. I miss the 707 being under $100.
 
Those "geniuses" at Winemarket are at it again. In today's email, Jamiesons Run Shiraz 2012 (6 bottles). Was $95.94. Now $99.00. BARGAIN!

Yep 10 bucks from boccaccio. Hoddles has a top paddock block which is separate from the estate block. Looks like it is the same clone and we are seeing the effect of terroir. We thought they were almost identical but after a few tastes you could tell the paddock was a bit rougher edged. More interesting I thought! I would buy this again.

I grabbed a couple of bottles of the Top Paddock. Personally, it was okay for the 10 bones I paid, but I won't be buying more. Was quite sweet for a pinot noir.

This more recent Shiraz release has a massive JH97 and some seriously tempting platitudes:

"Supurb example of the variety and of the region. Full-bodied but silkin, ripped with inky blueberry and blackberry fruit flavour but alive with violet, fresh mint and assorted garden herbs. Deep and wise but sharp as a tack. Cut with rocky, minerally, smoky tannin. At the riper end of the spectrum, sure, but a powerhouse wine, a perfumed steamroller, and with a long future ahead."

Sounds pretty amazing for $32.90 a bottle (in any 6) (with the usual cash back and WISH card deductions for the Internet savvy). Ummm ...
