Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Anyone have experience with CellarDoor's mystery bundles?

Will it be overpriced overseas cough, or a chance of something decent?

Generally domestic wines but their retail pricing is pretty average and I would avoid their cheaper wines
Outside of a few exceptions, I wouldn't touch unless they are offering over 50% off retail.

TWC is doing 2010 St Hugo for $40 a bottle.

Maybe good option for those without a cellar. Generally I've put St Hugo near to Wynns Black label (which I rate highly for it's value and door affordable cellar releases in the past).

I haven't had 2010, but would be likely near peak.

You need to download the app to get it though.

I need your help. What ONE pinot noir would you buy for under $30 that is not watery, has complexity and is damn nice? I am planning an expedition in there for the next week. Thanks in advance. Take the chance to dance and romance.

Probably Hoddles Creek Estate. Or one of Mayer's Bloody Hill Villages wines, although I think they're probably all sold out for this year.

Holm Oak 2020 or Supernatural 2021 if you can't find them

- Red Claw has a bit of grunt to it.
- Moore's Hill is a good oaky option
- finewineco has Nanny Goat for $30 on their front page if you can have someone price match (not tried but Central Otago usually a go to for big pinot)

Coldstream estate Pinot noir.
Today I got a call from Treasury wine, said that Deer farm has special price. I didn't pick up the call and don't know the price. If it is 30 it will be a good buy.

I think Bay of Fires was available at that price when previously on sale on cellarone.

I'd just up the budget as cheap pinots are generally not worth it

Coldstream deer farm is my vote if you can get it for the price. From a non pinot guy I found it pretty tasty over Xmas lunch.

I was pleasantly surprised by this - have bought for well under $20, got the big brother Bay of Fires on a good deal too but it would be a bit more expensive normally. Or the Paringa PE.

I remember buying the eddystone for about $24 a couple of years ago. Unfortunately my limit applies. Thanks to those above, I hit up Nicks for a pickup. The Holm is in there plus a few others which read well around the review traps. Dannys is to come this weekend I feel. Let me chip in with one i did have recently from Dannys which has started this new binge on PN for me was the Morialta Trails PN, had for about $19. This was a serious PN for me and I am back for more without doubt. Complextity, palate, mild tannins, not too bitey. The only distracting comment I made was the fact that at this price point, the fruit density is the same as a much dearer one. Apart from that a great find. I do remember the worst PN in my life, a twelve bucker and I can hear you already at this price point screaming like I was picking up an infected hooker at a Bangkok massage parlour was the De Bortoli something or rather. It tasted like my cherry cordial I but from the European shops but it was worse. More diluted. So there comes a time and I think PN's are the varietal when the quality-price curve really fits when you have to step up and thanks to the above as I have hit the credit card at Nicks last night.

@beefarmer - try and find some PN with some age. I often find PN is either made to be drunk straight away (hence the lack of depth) or is drunk too early.
I don't really drink much PN as I haven't had much luck with deals on aged PN. However, I did pick up some 2015 Austins Ruby May which was really good value (I think I paid $10 or something stupid).
I know that you've already bought, but Geelong region seems to produce some good PN (may exceed budget though). Lethbridge (too expensive), Scotchmans Hill are a couple that I remember.

It's a bit like finding a needle in a haystack down on the bellarine farms. Most of my last few year pinot drinking were oldies from the Fo days, 2013 to 2016 but I am into a new generation now and buying for the longer haul. Getting oldies is too hard I have found.

Hoddles? Dappled Appellation? '

Not too many PNs we dabble with now in that range unfortunately. Stonier SVs via CellarOne (i.e. Jimjoca are not watery and in that bracket).
