Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Has anyone grabbed a mystery pack with a chance to win a grange from Dan's before? Are they typically good value, obviously assuming you don't a get a grange.
The $99 case I bought in April was pretty decent.

Wine direct getting in on the "secret" deals - 70% off 2012 McLaren Vale Shiraz, $70 down to $20. Any guesses? Not much info to go off...

Secret Cancelled Export 2012 McLaren Vale Shiraz 6 Pack

I don't know what it is, but a rough guess would be the Curtis Cavaliere Shiraz 2012, they've had it in the past and the 2013 is on their site currently with RRP $70.
It's under cork.

If it is the Cavaliere, it is good value at $20.

Another possibility is Serafino Sharktooth http://serafinowines.com.au/wine/view/2012-serafino-sharktooth-shiraz/, but I think the Curtis is more likely.

Another possibility is Serafino Sharktooth Serafino | 2012 Serafino Sharktooth Shiraz - 96 points by James Halliday, but I think the Curtis is more likely.

Just interested why you say it is good value - Halliday gave it 87 points - I am not a fan of his but if it is low points I would take some notice

I've tried both 2010 (94pts) and 2012 (87pts) from mixed-pack offers and I preferred the 2012, didn't find the disjointed character Halliday mentions.
I liked the 2012 enough to order another 6-pack at the $120 price offered at the time (August 2014).

I just checked, it's actually sealed with a Diam cork, not natural cork, I prefer Diam to natural cork.

RB has replied for himself but would suggest the answer to this is essentially that he thinks for himself and doesn't put much weight in Halliday reviews. Plenty of people around who agree with this view.

This one is interesting, seems good value.
Drink to 2015 so DM must get rid of stock.

Be aware of this:

"Direct From: WM
Dan Murphy's Connections products are sent directly from our suppliers, which is why you won't find them in your local store."

I'm still waititng after 20 days for items which didn't come direct from DM. About to follow up.

For the fizz lovers... Dan's has some ok deals on Moet/Veuve & Mumm... but add in the cash rewards offer and WISH and you're well under $40 a bottle for Moet/Mumm ($45 for Veuve) - I would suggest good value given current AUD v EUR
