Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

I had the Godfather Sour and an Applewood G&T last week in MEL, all very good.

The prawn brioche was the favourite food option. I had the prawn, mozzarella, pork and squid. That being said the MEL EK lounge is currently opening at 5:15pm and so I trekked over there for some better cheese and champagne.

Nothing like a good old lounge crawl! I do it myself in SYD INT.

I 100% agree however I'd rather spend time in the nice places ;)

I think my record has been HKG earlier in the year. I went Wing First, Wing Business, QF Lounge, Pier Business and Pier First. Yes I know rookie leagues just 5.

Last Thursday, I had 3.5 hours and could have done 7 in MEL with QF Plat, Amex and Priority Pass. It would have been QF F, QF J, EK, The House, Marhaba, Priority Pass and Amex lounge. Instead I did pop into the House just to have a look (10 mins), spent most my time in the QF F and about 30 mins in the EK lounge.

That beats me! Two is my limit. I did two at FCO earlier this year. Even in 3.5 hours, that hard yakka!

Chilli caramel pork with crispy Brussels sprouts and apple puree. WOW!!! As a card carrying member of the Society of Brussels Sprouts Haters, I went well outside out of my comfort zone to order that dish. But boy oh boy was it delicious!!! 😋

Last month, i ordered that "hold the sprouts" and it was terrific (if somewhat small). I repeated the order ... yummy.

If you didn't know they were Sprouts, you could be a convert @serfty - they were delicious!
I asked the staff to pass on my compliments/appreciation to the chef and mentioned that whilst I hate Brussels sprouts, that dish was totally delish! Apparently a fairly new chef on so they were suitably chuffed.

I thought my aversion to Brussels was a childhood thing and might be cured by extreme maturity.

During COVID, SHMBO was consuming a plate of streamed Brussels Sprouts with garlic. The odour was interesting and I was prevailed upon to try one. So I did.

Ick!

It is what it is ...

Pretty certain the secret to making them taste good is to serve them with other stuff such that no longer taste of Brussels sprouts 🤣

Back in MEL FLounge. Ordered the Brussels sprouts again along with the gua bao with red braised pork, chilli, sesame, cashews and pickles.

Gua bao arrived along with a serve of the prawn, tomato and celeriac remoulade on toasted brioche. 🤷‍♂️ Oh well, guess we’re trying that too.

Gua bao was usual standard and the prawn brioche was ok. Opted to wash it down with a Hot Smoke Margarita.

Margherita was interesting, but not sure it’s my thing.

Re-ordered the Brussels sprouts and whilst nice, didn’t live up to the high standard set yesterday.
