Distinct possibility that intra state travel will be banned within WA in the near future. Sounds like they are going to target at least the Easter period, WA Police Commissioner talking about those with holiday homes outside the Perth area.

Just received this email from Big4 tonight
Following the recent government updates, in particular, the advice around non-essential travel, we wanted to reach out to you again to let you know the changes we have made...
Most of our BIG4 Holiday Parks currently remain open to provide essential travel to those in need...
we have had to make the difficult decision to no longer accept bookings or arrivals for non-essential travel at this time.

This is at the at the same time I read reports of large numbers of caravans coming up the Newell Hwy prior to the Qld border restrictions starting midnight tomorrow. Can't confirm this, but ABC reports large numbers crossing the WA border today, including grey nomads heading for la-la land.

Seems foolishness not confined to the youthful

Tonight (Tuesday 24 March), Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced that overseas travel (except in a tiny number of circumstances) is banned for Australians. Perhaps academic for many of us given the strong hints from within Oz, and other nations' actions making such travel challenging at present even if one wanted to depart.

Overheard at SIA check-in at SYD last evening.

Agent: Sir, you have not provided all the documentation required to determine whether you meet the rules for travel out of Australia.

Pax: How long before check-in closes - I need to travel and will get on the phone now?

Agent: Sir, check-in is closing now.

Pax: Well, Can I rebook, I really need to travel?

Agent: Yes Sir, of course you can?

Pax: When is the next available flight?

Agent: The next available flight is 17th May!

QR913, the new BNE-DOH flight, is about 1/3 full in J, but is packed to the gunwales in Y tonight.

The inbound flight from DOH, QR912, looks very lightly loaded, although it isn't scheduled to depart for another 8 hours...

AA has released it's hopeful summer schedule 2020.Hoping to resume some services in July.LAX-SYD on 23/10.
All up 60% reduction over summer 2019.

Well the fellow from Oxford whose modelling predicted 250000 deaths in the UK suggested up to 70% would be in people who would die in 2020 anyway.
several places including Hong kong are reporting way less influenza deaths this northern hemisphere flu season.

PS.Many are dying from multi organ failure or heart failure rather than pneumonia.
Also obviously deaths are now reported as due to Covid rather than pneumonia.

Some reports reading with the numbers on deaths with coronavirus.
China, if you died of something else even if you had coronavirus then not marked as coronavirus.
Italy, if you had coronavirus in your system then you died of coronavirus.
Both Germany and UK doing ok with coronavirus,
I am surprised how high the numbers are in France.

Really hoping we find some sort of treatment, one interesting program from BBC4 Pandemic said that a treatment is at least 12 months in the making, I don't want to be locked down until after Christmas.

Any explanation being proffered?

I assume week 1 is the first week of Jan?

If so it looks like:
1/ that it had started as a milder flu season than most

and 2/ that influenza really kicked down noticeably about the time flights were being reduced and at least some people in the USA would have been starting to practice the measures required for CV 19 which as we know also helps to prevent flu cases.

Though tow previous years also had steep declines at roughly that time of year and so it may just have been coincidental.

Do covid-19 attributable deaths manifest as a separate category from pneumonia?
Is it not pneumonia induced by flu and covid-19 that's the ultimate cause of mortality?

Going by what NYC paramedics have been stating quite a number of calls are for cardiac arrests, at a much higher rate than normal, who die before they get there or on their arrival. The patients family indicated that the people had symptoms consistent with CV 19. The paramedics did not seem to know if they were recorded as CV19 deaths or heart attacks.

Speaking of graphs, here’s this week’s flutracker, with a similar story

Would be interesting to see some correlation of the stats with other potential impacts:
(1) flu vaccinations administered by date [see whether that has been having a significant impact]
(2) Type of flu [if the same flu's are circulating as previous years then herd immunity will be impacting - the annual vaccine mix is a bit of an educated guess by authorities]
(3) Volume of international and domestic travel [less spread in the community due to less travel for 2020 at least]

It was interesting to see the ‘moving tape’ (scroll) across the bottom of the screen at the Health Secretary’s briefing in the UK last night. That tape reported 672 deaths with Covid-19. Not ‘from’ covid-19. So they must be aware there are other causes in there, of which covid might be the main factor, or not.

A lot of places the travel restrictions, which vary, are open ended. Ethiopia, late into the fray, imposed a five month state of emergency on Wednesday, which was longer than others I’d seen.

Japan's 7 prefecture state of emergency is currently planned for 1 month, but the travel ban on incoming arrivals has no noted end date.
