Not everyone was special enough to receive the email.

It was only sent to people who have redeemed an Any Seat award in the past, which is interesting in itself!

Why don't the just change it so that classic awards earn SCs (not SCs and points, just SCs)? Would simplify a lot of things.
Makes a lot of sense. Helps them burn away those points balance liabilities.

There less of a liability than many think, from an accounting perspective Qantas loyalty assign a margin on both sale of points and redemption of points.

I got it and I've never booked an ASA.

Unfortunitly Asia Miles is hopeless, it is easier to get a CX flight on the Qantas site.

Agree CX here we come !!!

Must check out the new and improved CX site and reward offerings to compare with QF.

Use the CX site itself to get flights. Fairly straight forward..

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I imagine the extra labour on th QF side will make them even more marginal....

This seems to be the strategy. Make it difficult to obtain ASA, usage stats are low, can't justify the call centre cost = dump them.

The other key point is why not just change the routing rules to prevent gaming of the system? Because that mean they have stop those routes for classic awards and cash tickets? So happy to sell the objectionable routes just not as ASA? Does that say something?

I have yet to recieve the email, and I have redeemed ASA's 3 times in the last 12 months (was on one yesterday).

While I find it dissapointing that Qantas have made it more difficult to access cheap buisness class and status credits, it really just means that we will need to work smarter to get maximum benefit from our FF points.

Maybe patience is needed?

My email was send at 14:11 yesterday - I received it 27100 seconds later  ... (http://www.mxtoolbox.com/EmailHeaders.aspx)

FWIW, emails were being sent to those who had redeemed "an award in the last two years" ... there was no specific definition as to what type of award.

Seems a bit inconsistent. And just because I hadn't booked one didn't mean I hadn't been looking to. Surely that sort of email should just go out to everyone.

Maybe I look at different routes but every time it has been a bun fight, they waitlist until the last minute

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

:( Just did a dummy booking for a foreshadowed visit to Hong Kong in Feb 2014 which I was using points for a JASA (BNE-SYD-HKG-BNE) which was going to cost me 120,000 points + about $640. Was even going to upgrade the SYD-HKG leg to F for the very first time.

Same booking today costs me 120,000 points + $3,000+ and a classic will cost me 125,000 (that is just BNE-HKG-BNE) and no SCs or points!

I am spewing I didn't lock that JASA in a week ago.

Did you ring and ask for the marginal desk or used the number upthread?

I used the number earlier and the guy hadn't been filled in.
I didn't use the secret term marginal though, he worked through it with me but it seems we will need to be educating the call centre guys as we go rather than they will be trained on it themselves... I'm sure there aren't actually too many staff so I would think it wouldn't take too long for everyone to have been through the AFF *ASA initiation and then it will be easier for us all :) until d-day :(

Hi,

So if there is P class availability say then does that mean that there is an ASA available now or is it similar that only a portion of the inventory is released?

Yes it appears they waitlist J seats which is very annoying..

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

To those who are getting annoyed at admin and / or mods who are supposedly using the information gained at a private briefing for their own interest, <snip>

In case this happens to be directed towards my good self, in part or whole, I think I have been clear and careful not to accuse anyone of anything improper. In fact I have said specifically several times that I DON'T think that's the case. I've said several times that (FWIW) I have absolutely no problem with mods etc getting freebies (and there haven't been much in that regard it's obvious), but I would like anything free or privileged to be declared.

<snip>, I say this:
  • The owner's own the website and the mods are his lieutenants. They can do whatever they want with information which was gained as part of having this privilege.
  • Conflict of interest? They don't have any duty to anyone
  • Not happy? Go start your own website and do well enough to be a mod and/or suck up to QF and get an invite?

  • <snip>

Well. You certainly have nailed your personal standards to the mast. Free for all with privileged information? No obligations re conflict of interest? I would hope and expect that the owner, mods and virtually everyone else here have higher standards than that. In fact, even without knowing any of them, I'm sure of it.

<snip>, I say this:

[*]If you knew privately in advance that someone was going to drop a nuclear bomb was going off in Sydney, would you book flights out for your family ASAP or wait till the information is public before booking a flight out?!
[/LIST]

Oh. Good. Grief.

(with apologies to thread readers for not sticking to the main topic at hand.)

 Apologies, I did not go as far back as I thought I needed (I got to the many 'conflict of interest' posts and got bored).

I will try the number and advise.
