Hi

Just wondering did you actually asked for the marginal desk? Will be good to know the correct term when calling up, as will have to call during work hours and don't want to waste time :(

Cheers

Mariginal Any Seat Award desk might be better, then again how many "Marginal" departments would they have??

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

This thread needs a sticky up the front with clear concise information me thinks...

Read most of the threads here, not all sorry, and its getting hard to follow this thread when the post count is so fast...!

Only booking a few (J)ASA's in the past, when it was easy, I'd be keen to know the "good oil" on how to book such a beast now.... Yes, one can call but how can I accurately "estimate" there is a "marginal" award available...?

From some basic searching I see that "X, Z, U and P classes" are the ones I am looking for, but how exactly do I do this...? Sorry for the noob question, but I'm not going to know without asking...sorry... Just don't want to call, wait half an hour, get hold of a clueless agent etc. etc...

Previously I just looked for a reasonably priced classic availability, then switched over to book an ASA with a co payment reducing it to the classic cost.... Now things have changed, are all classics available as an ASA, or only some...? If only some then how to find...?

Looking to empty my points balance bucket and look at other options

Cheers

Shintaro

I'm with you Shintaro. So we can't even search for ASA's now? Unless we call?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I had that happen yesterday too; just click continue again and you're on your way (though it shouldnt happen at all...)

Did it again (less availability now) and gave up after it had cycled 10 times to the date selection screen.

Edit: Website online help suggests clearing cache as the solution. Not a solution for me.
It's getting too hard - maybe I'll try *A

I'm not sure there is an actual desk as such. The automated answer asks you to input your QFF and at least for WP's it re-routes you to the Premium desk.
As I posted in the "Has anyone booked an xASA" thread I advised the agent that I wished to book an available Classic Award as an Any Seat Award and pay the taxes on my credit card.
The agent I dealt with knew exactly what I was talking about and sympathised with me that the telephone booking service was a pain for something that could previously be done online.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

After much procrastination on my behalf for months prior to the change I spent an hour on the phone to the QFF centre yesterday and booked two JASA's to get to my goal of 550 SC's
Mel/Perth/Karratha return for 280 SC's and Mel/Perth/Broome, thinking the return was the same for 280 sc's and now discover coming back to Melbourne via Sydney leaving me 10 sc's short for platinum. Panicking now as do not know what to do besides booking another discount econ flight somewhere for 20 sc's...Trouble is there are two of us travelling and looks like I am up for another almost $400 ....if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate, I dont fancy another hour on the phone to the call centre...would a cheap JQ flight do it? or do I change through the call centre and wondering how much that would cost too. I knew I should have done it on line the night before the change !! :(Thanks in advance

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

How can Qantas expect this process has made ANYTHING easier for ANYBODY? It's now harder for their customers to book these xASA awards - oh and don't forget, "we're the reason they fly"! - and their staff have to spend MUCH more time dealing with xASA bookings, without eve a booking fee, so where is the efficient in this?

Admin, Serfty or Markis10: was this problem raised during your briefing with Qantas and if so, what was their response and their justification for making what was once easy now incredibly difficult?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

A bit late with my post but I have to thank the OP for their valuable information. I was planning on saving my points so I could maintain SG next year, however late Tuesday I decided to blow a lot of my points on a DRW-BNE-TSV return JASA in July and an OOL-SYD-ADL-BNE-TSV-BNE-DRW JASA in September, which with my other planned flights should get me over the line to WP. Just have to hope now that they don't decide to "enhance" the soft landing!

Scott.

** Update just called the call centre and they moved the flight to a Broome Perth Melbourne return and no charge...I am much relieved !!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I haven't seen one apology to the OP from the trolls who were making snarky remarks about "inaccurate information" every chance they got, and now that the OP has been vindicated, have strangely gone silent or suffered a bout of amnesia about the whole thing.

Look back through this thread and you will find quite a few posts along that line, I also posted a 'well done' to the OP.

But this was because his information proved to be right this time, and let's face facts, the two previous times it's been wrong. Now you know what they say about a stopped clock, it's still accurate twice a day. My point is that the first two times the information was wrong, and not just the date being wrong but the core of the information.

You only need to look at the modified title for this thread. It used to be "QF removing ASAs" and that was the whole thing, that ASAs would be gone and everything would be points+pay.

Now it's doubly-qualified, "QF removing cheap ASAs" and not removing them entirely, just "from web booking engine".

And I am not convinced that QF backed down because they they suddenly got afraid of how AFF would respond, because as much as many here may like to believe differently, AFF is the smallest drop in a very large ocean, and it's not as if AFF members are responding any differently than they would have on the two previously claimed dates when this ASA Apocalypse was supposed to happen. <redacted>

Anyway, so yes, I tip my hat to the OP for being right this time around with a post that was ahead of the official news from QF, well done and rightly so. But I do not withdraw my previous criticism of the previous two times when we were told this was happening, that ASAs were being withdrawn from this date or that date and everybody ran around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Don't see what the angst is all about?
  • If you knew privately in advance that someone was going to drop a nuclear bomb was going off in Sydney, would you book flights out for your family ASAP or wait till the information is public before booking a flight out?!

I'd book flights but look for the best routing to achieve maximum status credits because I am close to lifetime Gold. Then again with a nucelar bomb about to go off maybe there would not be much 'life' left to enjoy Lifetime Gold.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

As an AFF moderator, I was invited by Red Roo to attend the web session at 4pm on 25th June, along with some media representatives
[snip]
Here is my summary of the information presented at that session, all of which has been presented by others both here and elsewhere
[snip]

Thank you, nm! A great summary! I think it covers everything we need to know.

This is what which should have been posted in this thread at 6am yesterday morning, as soon as the 'embargo' from the QF briefing was over. Maybe it should even have been a sticky. It would have been much more useful to AFF members than a post saying "Yeah basically what was said earlier".

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

When someone proudly states they were part of the private meeting and then proudly stated they used lots of QF points straight after, it just shows the "look at me look at me look at me I am special" mentality that some people have.

So now we wait for another 3 months to see if these marginal ASAs do disappear....

And if these marginal ASA's do disappear, as you mention, would you then complain after they disappear and start a similar threat to this. The word is they 'might' disappear, or they are investigating it, so this appears to be similar to what has happened in this threat where people had prior knowledge of a potential threat (several months in fact) to ASA's and did nothing about it.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Regardless of whether it's a good or bad decision overall, I can't understand why it wasn't pushed out until next week. It was only a few days ago that Qantas sent out the series of double / triple points & status credits offers to many members (even I got one). It only lasts until the 30th of June, why wouldn't they wait until the 1st of July to roll it out? Plus everyone trying to spend money on business expenses just before EOFY.

Perhaps QFi is bleeding money badly? This I feel has to be the most likely reason behind the removal of ASA's. Perhaps time to sell shares in QF?

It woudn't be QFi so much as there's a competitive international market.

The domestic business ASA's only have to compete with [-]DJ[/-]VA and that's where revenue would be hurt.

But if ASA as so limited in use, why not change the cost of classic awards, in that case. There has gotta be more money to be gained via that route, given the apparent limited use of ASAs.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

At the end of the day, I just want the Any Seat Awards to stay. And I don't want calling Qantas to be the only way just to make a booking. These point burning trips are valuable to me and I think it's a careless business decision to limit the options of the loyal customer.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I note that some of the comments on this thread refer to the web site and some problems in its operation.
Therefore I hope this is the right place for my post.
I am trying to book a car from LHR from the 28/052014 to about the 09/06/2014.
I am getting (and have for a few weeks) an error called a long running script (whatever that means) two emails to QF feedback have yielded no response , and of course there is NO phone number to call.
Has anyone else had this issue?

I Guess not :-(

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I Guess not :-(

Probably a silly question but have you tried ringing the Premium desk and asking them to add the car for you on Manage my Booking?
