Hi everyone - was wondering if people have ever been given complementary/operational upgrades on Oneworld operated flights based off your QF status?

Yes we received an upgrade to J on MH MEL-KUL when I was QF gold. I was shocked and happy, given I wasn’t an MH elite and there were two of us. I assume it was an op up.

Yes. Once, in 2008. 🙂

Was QF SG at the time and flying IB on one leg of a LONE5 (how little I knew back then…). MAD-MIA flying with my, at the time, fiancé (flying together on the same booking) and I got the beep at the gate. She (QF NB) didn’t.

After a little explaining that we were travelling together and a fair bit of rather harried chatter in Spanish amongst the gate staff, we had two mostly hand-written new boarding passes and seats together in J. A much more pleasant way to cross the Atlantic.

Yep, quite a few years ago, mostly QF domestic (particularly DRW-BNE around Christmas) and BA.

Struck gold getting upgraded to J between HNL and SYD this year on QF. No upgrade request submitted and the flight wasn’t oversold.

There have been a few programs of free upgrades on QF for set periods, but none of these were part of that. During the most recent campaign the only flights I had were already in business.

First time not flying economy was an upgrade to premium (no status) on QF 747 from SYD-NRT as opup.

Most recent opup that wasn't complimentary upgrade was on SIN - SYD (AY plane) drom Y to PE. Initially was on QF2 but it had problems so I slide over. They clearly pushed a lot more people over at check in and my boarding pass beeped at the gate with a rejection. Given a PE boarding pass instead.

Too spring to mind, both on BA as a WP and travelling with SWMBO on a LONE4 in June

Once to Club Europe DXB-LHR and the other to Premium Economy, ORD-LHR.

I used to routinely get opups from Y to J on CX a few years ago as QFF Gold flying out of Dubai. Earlier this year as Platinum flying out of Manila in PE all I got was a very friendly 'welcome back' but no opup.

Had many CX upgrades at the gate not to mention QF, however since then many airlines have monetised upgrades via online auctions etc, so I suspect op-ups are something of a unicorn, ie exist but very rare.

Yes. QR DOH-PER was bumped from J to F and pretty sure being OWE has my near the top of the list.

No upgrades on other oneworld airlines, though was able to select F seats sold as J on CX on HKG-TPE legs a few times.

As QF Plat some years ago had one Y opup on HKG-SYD, and domestically on SYD-OOL and vv.

Also as a VA Plat went 3/4 on PE-J opups with VS on two SYD-HKG return trips.

Yes only ever on CX.

A standout is last year - peak time and route (August, SYD - CDG), for myself, my partner and my mum. All 3 upgraded at the gate from PE to J, the entire way.

This was also after our paid upgrade bids were rejected, so we were psychologically resigned to spending the next 26 hours in PE. Was an incredible experience.
