re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

Dick Smith near work is running low on Wish Giftcards - only 4 left. Must be very popular.

I don't understand the point of people buying (and Woolworths Group selling) Woolworths, Woolworth's Petrol, BWS, etc giftcards when the Wish giftcard covers the lot.

If your unfortunate enough to have an alcoholic family member you might understand.

Similarly, when wanting to help people who are struggling to put food on the table, we have given Woolworths cards rather than the Wish card, knowing at least that what we have provided is likely to be spent on food and not booze or ipods etc. Of course its no guarantee, but at least it may help.

I note that at our local DSE they have a display stand with all sorts of gift cards including Wollies, Big W, BWD, Dan Murphy, Caltex etc, but the Wish cards are kept under the counter and you need to ask specifically for them. Perhaps its the different packaging that does not fit well onto the display stand, or perhaps some other incentive to promote the other types of cards.

A few of the DSE stores that I have been to, don't even stock the Wish gift cards

So as a result I've taken a handful from a shop (not activated) and then walk into another shop to add some $$ to them

I have spent lots of $ at DSE recently on their computers and other products of course :D;)

Are they still called Wish cards? I have not seen Wish cards for a few weeks now and I think they are now called Gift cards and have brand name (D!ck Smith, Woolworths) at the bottom.

The three I "purchased" last weekend were all labelled Wish Card.

I have two types of Wish cards here

The older style (I think) with the red gift box on the front
The newer one, a brighter yellow with some black thing on it.

Both have all stores that accept the card on the back
Both have WISH Gift Card on the front

The Dick Smith I went to in Sydney and Brisbane recently no longer stock the Wish cards. They only have the Dick Smith gift cards which are black in colour but still managed by WishGiftCard.

I got a wish card from the shop in the queen St mall 3 weeks ago. I had to ask for it as they were kept behind the counter. No way I'd buy a Dick Smith gift card as I assume they have to be used at Tricky Dicky. A Woolies food or fuel card would be far more useful.

That it the one I went to a couple of weeks ago and no Wish cards.

Nothing wrong with a Dick Smith Gift card as it can be used at any Woolworths outlets. ;)

For the purposes you have described, the appropriate card is a Grocery Only card, which cannot be used to buy alcohol, tobacco, or other gift cards.

Indeed and with one of my aunts the excuses were many and varied. Electricity bill, petrol, water bill (how someone renting can have a water bill is beyond me) etc. So a variety of cards covers all excuses.

I believe some of the newer apartment buildings have individual water meters and the tenant is responsible for their share of water usage.

Water consumption can often be a tenant responsibility.

ie This is the case in Victoria.

In WA it can be written into the rental agreement as well. The owner can recover the costs from the tenants (unlike Victoria where the tenant gets billed directly).

Well there you go.

I've never paid for water renting in qld, SA and NSW. I also pay the water for my investment house. Looks like i need to get some time up. ;)
Should have mentioned the aunt is in qld.

Anyone had experience with Dick Smith Price matching ??

I am after a product which is $50 cheaper in most other stores, but would prefer the 5 x boni points on the purchase.

I wonder if I can buy it at the Dick Smith price on Amex and then get the refund in cash :D
