My employer has booked some domestic flights in OZ for me for travel from PER to SYD, to MEL and back to PER
They are classes V, B & S.

I just wanted to know what they relate to eg does V= super saver of flexi saver??
Hoping one of the gurus can help me out.

Cheers.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

What I usually do is go to this page Earning Points Calculator and click on the "Class Types" button

V & S = Super Saver Discount Economy
B = a corporate discounted Y fare - there was a recent thread about this.

Batesy, you want to print out a copy of the Domestic Fare Structure to understand the different fare groupings.

Things like this can be found in the Ultimate Qantas Guide (the sticky in the Qantas FF Forum).

With the caveat in this case, that this particular document is completey silent on what B class is.

On a related matter, I have recently completed a DONEx that included one sector where there was no business class cabin. As set out in the OneWorld Explorer rules, I was (naturally) dropped back to economy class for that sector.

I assumed that I would relegate to full economy. However, I was booked L class, which is a discount economy class, and received the greatly reduced SCs and FF points pertaining to that class.

It seemed strange that I received full business class SC and points benefits in D class, which is a discounted business class fare, yet was not relegated to Y class on the sector where there was no business class cabin.

The agent at the Qantas FF centre was very unclear on this when I called, and I'm still awaiting an explanation.

The DONEx rules don't seem to be explicit anywhere that I can find on what the relegation class will be in such cases. It just says "If an aircaft servicing part of your itinerary doesn't have a first or business class cabin, customers will be booked into a lower class cabin. Mileage and tier points can only be accrued from eligible fares in the cabin flown".

Can a guru enlighten me as to whether I was wrongly booked in L instead of a full-earn economy class designation?

Partner JohnM's Partner Gold renewal may end up swinging on this, so all advice greatly appreciated ;) !

ozmark, the particular document is for usual retail purchased classes of travel and fare bases - I don't think was meant to encompass all the possible classes on sale.

The question was previously answered by SeatBackForward, so I saw no need to repeat it:
fare B = a corporate discounted Y fare - there was a recent thread about this.

If you are on a DONEx and the flight booked has no business, then in most cases, it is absolutely correct that you would be booked in L and earn points accordingly

What was teh flight? The rules are explicit that for some single class flights, a DONEx or AONEx will book into Y. But for any other flights they you will be booked in L.

The fare rules are very explicit when it comes to booking codes. Here it is:
Code:
BOOKING CODES
                           FIRST BUSINESS ECONOMY
AA/BA/CX/IB/QF/LA/LP/EI A D L
AY D D L
AY/EI/LA/LP DOMESTIC Y Y L
AA DOMESTIC FLTS 3000-5599 Y Y L
BA WORLD TRAVELLER PLUS T

NOTE: WHEN THE CLASS OF SERVICE FOR THE FARE IS NOT OFFERED BOOK IN THE NEXT
LOWER CLASS OF SERVICE USING THE BOOKING CLASSES ABOVE.
EXCEPTION - FOR SERVICES WITHIN/BETWEEN THE USA AND CANADA WHERE NO
-D- CLASS IS OFFERED BUSINESS CLASS PASSENGERS MAY BOOK AND TRAVEL IN
 -A- CLASS SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY.
THIS PROVISION DOES NOT APPLY ON ANY FLIGHT WHERE A BUSINESS CLASS CABIN
EXISTS BUT IS UNAVAILABLE FOR BOOKING.
So if the flight was not an AY/EI/LA/LP domestic flight, or an AA domestic flight between AA3000 and AA5999 (i.e. American Eagle flight), then it should be booked in L.

As above, it depends on the specific operator and flight number involved.

I was just pointing out that while a useful document, it was worth noting that some fare buckets do not appear in it. I have to confess as interpreting your answer as "look here, this document has the answers ye seek" :)

Thanks, NM.

Did I not look hard enough for the rules, or are they hidden somewhere more obscure than the OneWorld Exploere page?

It was an international (within Europe) AY flight.

It seems quite severe that the SC earn in D is equal to that of a full business class fare, but relegation to economy class almost always drops the earn to the lowest of the low.

There's always something to learn...

I took that quote from the fare rules as returned by ExpertFlyer for a DONE4 from QF (with some reformatting to make it readable  )

Then it would appear it was booked correctly.

Indeed there is a significant difference. But the fare rules are the same no matter which airline's FF program is being used, and the large disparity between SC earning is unique to the QF FF program. But similarly its the QF FF program that gains from F status credits for AA domestic flights on a DONE4 ticket. It crediting to AAdvantage, you earn the same Q-Points for A as for D (and in fact the same for Y and B as well).
