I haven’t decided exactly where I’ll be, but it’ll be in this shadow. Somewhere between Sydney and Christmas Island!

Yes I know better than to stay in Sydney for any astronomical event: guaranteed cloud! I was thinking of driving out into central west NSW and enjoying the open skies. Of course it may still be cloudy so I'll have to be prepared.

Long way off still and we are fairly impulsive travellers but October 2018 is our 20 year anniversary and we have always said that that we will spend a solid month in Switzerland for it.
We have been many times over the years and it’s our favourite destination but it’s usually been a side trip of a week or two from our European trips. This time Switzerland will be the base and we will just take probably a week to get there and 1-2 weeks to get home. Won’t even start planning for another 18 months though

Big wedding anniversary for us in 2028 so I've booked another Alaskan Cruise on Viking with a Canada Rocky Mountaineer in Gold class prior to the cruise. Seemed appropriate.

More than likely the usual 2 trips to Thailand.

Also my daughter will be in Grade 6 and that should hopefully be our last year in Brisbane. Around Christmas will possibly be a short road trip with trailer to Sydney to prepare for high school.

mrsdoctau and I are planning to hike the Annapurna circuit (probably April), which means we have a bit over 2 years to get our hiking fitness back up to scratch.

Just booked 2 back-to-back cruises in April '28. 1) Tromso, down Norwegian coast, then Scotland west coast to Glasgow, then 2) Glasgow back-and-forth between western Scotland, Isle of Man and Ireland. 17 nights total.

Both cruises no single supplement - a cabin to myself, and got Decks 5 and 6 (high decks; changing sides to be landward on each cruise). I cancelled one other cruise I had paid deposit on, and lost just $250 'rebooking fee'**; that cruise had a couple of discounts that Ponant honoured and transferred to the new booking.

Maths: the discounts apply on the previous line's total, but separately for each cruise so amounts won't apply evenly to previous total:

Cabin total, no discounts if dual occupancy $63,000 ( = 'rack rate')
Single fare allowed, so running total $32,820 (again, not exactly half as the 2 cruises don't have the same price)
30% and 25% early booking discount on the 2 cruises, so running total $24,623
10% 'commercial gesture' - transferred from cancelled cruise - compo from disruption to a previous cruise, running total $23,011
20% discount for back-to-back booking on each cruise, so running total $18,881
5% 'buy on board' discount. This was carried over from the old booking, that I made while on board a previous cruise#, running total $18,056
10% discount for my 'Grand Admiral' status, so final total $16,487 - less than $1,000/day which for these Ponant small ships is excellent value.

Already paid a $4,500 deposit for the cancelled cruise, which is more than the deposits for these cruises, so about $500 comes off the amount to pay 90 days before the cruise, so now about $12,000

You could probably take another 18 months of inflation % off as well, as not paying any more until January 2028.
