Hi all,
I am flying BNE-SYD-HKT rtn on Friday 18 May in * class to make it up to gold from sliver. I will report in about 2 weeks if I was in QF J/Y on the flts BNE/SYD/BNE. Should be interesting. I need the 320 statis credits to make it to gold by the end of the Mth. If it all works out OK I will be there at gold by the end of May?

Can you log into Checkmytrip with your QF Amadeus number and see a class code listed there?

I doubt iot would show up, as it would be booked on the JQ codeshare.

I am surprised that someone has not already reported on what happens in this situation. I could be wrong but I do not believe you will either be seated in business class or even earn business class SCs for QF domestic flights on *class airfares.

I picked a random date in May and the *class airfare MEL-HNL return is $2549.77! The *class airfare PER-MEL-HNL-SYD-PER is $2828.33 which for less than $300 extra someone will earn an extra 160 SCs (instead of the expected 40 SCs) @ $1.87/SC for the QF domestic flight. This has got to be one of the best SC returns I have ever seen!

While you may be correct in the result, I don't think you can use that logic to assume so. There are many valid cases on QF (and other airlines) where adding flights results in lower costs - ie the marginal SCs and points have a negative cost.

I actually thought I was being logical for a change.

Logic?? Yield Management? Seat Pricing? I am sure there is logic in there somewhere, just hard to see sometimes in this industry!

Hi all,

I have tried checkmytrip to see what class on my Jetstar flt BNE_SYD_HKT rtn in Star Class might be , no joy as it must be in the Jetstar res system only. I rang Jetstar today to confirm that I will be in the Y cabin on the QF BNE-SYD-BNE legs but earn points and Statis credits at the J rate. At long last Gold here I come, well lets see?

On another note, just rtned tonight GLT-BNE on the Dash 8 series 400, not a bad aircraft at 72 seats had about 65+ on that leg.

Cheers,

Tony

It's not a bad idea to ring Qantas anyway and ask them to put your FF number into their side of the booking. This will ensure you get your seating preference and aren't sitting in the back row in a midddle seat. ;) I gave mine to JQ at booking but QF actually had no record of it. This meant that the two Qantas flights would show in the "Your Bookings" in my FF account and also gives you the reservation number for Amadeus which is different to JQ.

Did you get that confirmation in writing? If that is the case I can just see a whole lot of SC run opportunities presenting themselves when *class sales are happening.

I am sure you will let us know how the SCs actually post to account and congratulations on your upcoming Gold status.

Also, just remembered, when in "Your Bookings" and View Itinerary, it shows your cabin class. For example, my Jetsaver showed as L class on the QF flights. Wonder if yours shows D?

Hi all,

Well, my bags are packed for my flts BNE-SYD-HKT rtn in *class on Friday 18th May. I will report if my little MR made the 300 + ponts or not in about 10 days. If all goes to plan it could be the start of great things for fellow frequent flers who chase, SC and QF points.

Thks all for you help and advice,

Cheers,

Tony

That was the line entry on the FF ststement, and I was seated up front for the 767 ride up to SYD. Apologies for the confusion. John.
So, he travelled in the front cabins and received J SC's and QFF points.

Hi all,

Just a quick update re my little MR to BNE-SYD-HKT rtn in * class. I will post more details if any are interested.

The first flt BNE-SYD was from Int.Term. thus I was on JQ-18. Very light load only aprox.10 people in * class only juice or water offered pre take off. No food once in the air. Seat 1A had good leg room.

SYD-HKT- *Class about 15 people, spare set next to me in 2B, back of the bus 90% full. Eco type meals with Fish, chicken, or vego. Good service with re-fills only if asked for.

HKT-SYD The $300 upgade from Y to * class at check in was filled. *class 100% full. Back of the bus over 95%. Fair service due to the load in * class. Same meals as the flt out offered. Again good leg room had about 4 hours sleep.

SYD-BNE On QF business class 1D, lunch time flt, full meal, 737-800. Best service of all flts.

* class is not J class but rather like BA WT+ or Air NZ Y+, OK for a holiday but not if you are flying for business in business.

At about $6.80 per SC not too bad....But to date no points have posted, have rung and emailed QF, will update the out come as soon as QF post my SC's and points.

Thks,

Cheers,

Tony

Thanks for the report.

you will find that you do need to follow up on the points and SC's; but they will post eventually when you follow up.

Hi all,

Well at long last I am happy to report all points and SC posted as I hoped they would on my trip to coughet.

BNE-SYD * class 1250 points 40 SC 1250 points
SYD-HKT * class 6767 points 120 SC 25% points extra for Silver FF
HKT-SYD * class 6767 points 120 SC 25% points extra for Silver FF
SYD-BNE * class 1250 ponits but in J class on QF 40SC 1250 points

I have now made it to Gold for the first time ever. I made the trip to see family working near coughet. Crazy, I know to spend the extra $ for it, but just wanted Gold for once. The mountain was there, I wanted to climb it?

Thks all for your help,

Tony

Congratulations on Gold toetoes, and thanks very much for reporting back that we do fly J on QF.

That is pretty good SC earning too. Just been looking at my flight history for this year, and with only whY fares, my SC's have cost on average about $15 each. Fortunately this has been 95% funded by my employer.

As J/D/I fares are out of the question for me, then these *class fares may be a viable option for maintaining WP status.

Unfortunately, one gets to to the "ridge of gold" then looks over and ahead see's the WP peak in the distance. ...

Then again I am posting this from the SYD Flounge.
