Same happened with me, it was so frustrating! In the end I told them I didn't want the card anymore cause I just didn't have the time to fax stuff off to them etc. The next day I got an email congratulating me that my card had been approved?! Go figure!

LOL nice !

It seems for a lot of people the 60k doesn't transfer at the first billing cycle, but shortly after the second one.

I am still fighting with them over my 60,000 points. Before I applied and I rang and it was confirmed that the offer was valid. When I got my paperwork no mention of the points so I rang and asked them to confirm the offer. They did. So I continued with the application. Before my first spend I rang again and asked them to confirm the offer again. They said they would get back to me. They didn't. I rang again and they confirmed that I would only get 50,000 points. I refused stating that the offer was for 60,000 and asked to be put onto a supervisor. They said the offer had expired - even though there is no expiry date on the link and the link obviously works or I would not have been able to apply in the first place! Took all the details about the link etc and I told them it was false advertising and I would not be going ahead with the card if they didn't honour their advertising. Not available but she would call me back in three days. She didn't. I rang again - guess what supervisor wasn't available. Explained the story again and I told them I would wait online until Supervisor was available. Was cut off. Send complaint email explaining etc etc. No response. Rang again and tried to cancel the card was immediately put onto a supervisor. He apologised for my trouble etc etc and said that my supervisor would return my call within 1 hour. She did!!!She said the matter was before her Manager and she would ring me back within 3 days. No return call. Rang again last week got to speak to my Supervisor - she said I would not be happy with their offer but as a good will gesture they were willing to offer me 5,000 points. How insulting!!! Not happy and I told her so. She said she would put it again before her manager and I said if they were not willing to honour their advertising I would not be going through with their card and I expected all charges to be reversed and the card cancelled. They have until Monday or that is what I will do. I also told them that the link was still active and falsely hooking people in. I have a family member who works for Department of Fair Trading, so they will be getting a letter too!

So are they offering you 55k (50k + 5k 'goodwill gesture') or just 5k points, I can't really tell from what you've written?

Mine were promised on the first and then the second bill. Then they were promised on the third. I asked to speak to a supervisor and explained that they had been promised three times and they appeared the next day.

Similar experience for me: points appeared very quickly (1 week?) but took three billing cycles and in the end me having to be very demanding in a phone call before I got them transferred to my QFF account - not happy that I had to get out of my comfort zone for this business to deliver it's promised product (and convinced they would not have, if I hadn't!)

My overall experience based on applying for this card / offer is that Citibank are completely and utterly inept. Possibly the worst customer service I've experienced. Was worth it in the end for the 60k points though. :-|

We all seem to be making similar mistakes in dealing with Citi, this includes myself as I had a less than satisfactory encounter with them earlier in the year. Next time I try to deal with Citi, during the upcoming points season, I'll get everything in writing. Speak to them first, for sure, but then have them confirm what was said in writing. If nothing comes (no fax, no email) assume that what you heard was a crock and ring again.

With Citi, anything you can't prove is worthless and just ends up in a loop of he said, she said, I thought someone said.

Alternatively, as all large institutions record conversations these days, and let you know that up front, attach a recording device to your phone and before your converstion with the CSR begins let them know that for quality assurance purposes your phone call is being recorded (big smile).

Most people I know (song title?) have this experience; I am very happy with my CitiBusiness card but I don't think I'll waste my time ringing their customer service team ever again. Useless, incompetent, rude...and the list goes on....

My understanding is you are legally required to get the OP's agreement before you record the conversation; hence the warnings on their systems.

Absolutely right. So, of course, as I mentioned "let them know that for quality assurance purposes your phone call is being recorded", they do, of course, have an opt-out option there, but its difficult to imagine them taking that up as they are, after all, recording you :)

After dealing with citibank a few years back I vowed never to use them again for all the reasons people have already discussed.... however the 60,000 points made me forget about my "use citibank and be damned" policy.... I was actually still a customer with them with a zero balance personal loan which resulted in some suprise when they wanted me to give my employer permission to confirm my income details despite me sending copies of my pay slips. The hoops these guys make you jump through are a strain compared to many other cards i've applied for an got withing a few days. Sigh. Just remember all the points.

Anywayz my question is this: I used that promotional code (Citibank Australia) that reduced the 1st annual fee to $125. No where in the product information did it mention the option of joining the qantas program like the normal promotion however it still is a platinum card so I kinda assumed you'd be able to, has anyone used the promotion code and then joined the qantas program, spent on the card and got the 60,000 straight over to qantas? I wasn't too fussed finding out before as i'm just as happy to transfer them over to krisflyer if I can't do the qantas thing.

Cheers

Hi BC, thanks for the help.... yes in fact I have read the 30 pages of this thread. I was specifically enquiring about the platinum card offer with the promotional code that's been floating around. From what I can gleam most posters are looking at the ordinary web offer, and I know this becuase many of them mention T&C's that talk about the qantas frequent flyer membership (an if the bonus points can be transferred). The T&C's of the deal i mentioned and posted a link to don't mention anything about qantas. The few people who have mentioned this different promotion haven't mentioned if they've in fact applied, what's happened with points or if they can still join the qantas program. That's why I asked.

As I mentioned a few posts above, in cases a genuine uncertainty, my advice would be to talk to the CitiBank CSR's and have them confirm whatever they tell you with a fax, post or email. Don't act until you get the confirmation.

Citibank is such a confused and disorganized company that stories of other customers (here) may not be relevant to your experience, even with the same product.

After the recent restructure/repositioning of the cards, Citibank seem to have stopped promoting the Qantas option on the Platinum card (being called the Citibank Rewards platinum card). Also the promo link is from before that restructure, it seems prudent that one would enquire into recent experiences with the card.

They certainly are confusing! like I said i'm happy to risk it and use the rewards to transfer to krisflyer, I'm assuming it's in the pipeline as they contacted my employer the other day.... I'll let everyone know how it goes, that promo link still seems to be active whilst the citi website has dropped the platinum to 40,000 bonus points now, it feels like citi have some nutty professor in charge pulling random leavers and pushing random buttons.

If that is the code that was posted about half way back through the thread then I used it and got the points. After activation, enrol in QFF, wait for QFF to appear in your rewards section before you spend. I had to get them to manually transfer the points in the end but I got them. There are detailed steps posted way back somewhere in this thread.

I can confirm you can earn QFF points, but you must be careful how you do it.

Firstly, posters who note there is no option for QFF direct earn during the application process are correct; you do not choose QFF direct earn during the application, but only after you have received your card, but before you spend on it.

Make sure you:
  1. Do not use your card before you have opted in.
  2. Opt in to the QFF program before you spend on it.
    1. Activate your card.
    2. On a separate phone call (so the nice Citibank person doesn't get confused), opt into the QFF rewards program. Agree to pay the $49.
  3. Once you have your pin, before you spend on your card, set up online access, go online, and check if you're opted in.
    1. Click on the rewards option on the right.
    2. Click on the Browse through Citi Rewards
    3. You should see that you're in the QFF program. If not, ring up and get it fixed.
  4. Once you're certain you're in the program, spend on your card!
  5. You won't see the points until your first statement - where it will show your spend points (you don't get points for the annual fee, additional cardholder fee, etc), as well as 60,000 bonus points, all listed as QFF points.
The Mrs now has a nice 70k points to transfer to me, which will mean on the trip next year we'll be sitting in J and the rug rats will be in Y.

Here they are.

Thanx CXF, wasn't sure from the posts if anyone had got the points with that code, especially with the t&c's being different. I look forward to a few more phone calls to citi to make it happen!
