Is the exclusion period 3 months from account closure for citi cards? Downgraded my citi prestige on 16 June 2025. 3 Months puts me just past the 14th September...

Is the exclusion period 3 months from account closure for citi cards?

If you look at the T&Cs section titled "Bonus Citi reward Points" for Citi Prestige Card, there is no such exclusion period. In fact, it looks like you could be holding a Citi card and apply for another one and still get the sign up bonus.

However, AFF has issued this warning: "In the past, some AFF members have reported that Citibank rejected their applications because they already had (or recently applied for) another credit card issued by Citibank."

You should really check the official terms and conditions yourself, and do not rely on a forum on the internet.

Thanks. I have read the terms and conditions myself and they don't state any exclusion as you said. I believe I have been informed over the phone by citi that 3 months was appropriate. I was just wondering if anyone else had had recent experience. Asking for advice on forums like this is exactly where you get that kind of information. and then you can make your own decision.

Ultimately I can try and worst that can happen is a decline..

What you are asking is outside the published rules, which I agree, you need to ask around for experience.

And my philosophy is, there are always rules which an outsider would not know about, which are the real traps one should be watching out for. Some people push their luck very hard, right to the boundary of T&Cs, but having worked in a phone company during my student days, I have seen plenty of pop up notes in customer accounts, saying things like:
  • "Customer is a very nice old man, 80 years old, very polite, customer of 15 years. Make sure you greet NICELY and waive any dispute charges under $5.".
  • "Customer is always abusive, always argue. Likes to make up claims about seeing discounts from newspapers and asking for discounts, or saying we have waived short duration calls previously. No waiving of short during calls, all complain calls to be transferred to xx_"
So I would argue against churning too fast too often, pushing luck too hard. because doing so may put yourself into the second category I mentioned above. The people in the bank may just be a little smarter than we think they are.

I'm planning on going for the prestige and coupling it with the current qantas 20k offer for first time qf cardholders - a small part of me wants to wait past September 14th though to see if there's a better SUB though.
Hi where can I find this 20k qantas offer online? thanks
