yep I have to call about a residual voucher booking. it has "15106 - This voucher cannot be used online. Please contact the Call Centre (15106 - 0) " stuck in it. no biggie. the flight booking is confirmed and all and shows up in my trips, just can't select seats so I'll call.

it's been ticketed since November, so something clearly upsetting the daily job or whatever :)
 
Didn't have the patience to wait 24-48 hours and was browsing the Qantas web site when the invitation to chat box popped up, so took the opportunity to get this fixed. The chat agent spent 20 min sorting it out.
 
Just a data point for those interested:

Via the QF phone service ...

Have just attempted to use 3 x vouchers for 2 x pax (each voucher was for 2 x pax) for QFi J tix...
So what I have found out is that I am technically trying to use 6 vouchers.

To do that, they would need to create 2 separate bookings and 'link' them - I'm not a fan of linking bookings when it involves SWMBO should something not to to plan down the track during the trip.

Anyways ... it turns out that we can only use 2 vouchers for 2 pax (technically 4 vouchers) on a single booking.

And there is a phone booking fee which they will not waive ... for 2 x QFi J tix it is AUD40 per pax (not per ticket, but per pax).

To not have the fee charged ... you can redeem a single voucher on-line.

And before anyone says ... thems-the-rules bla bla bla ... I am just posting a data point to help those that are less familiar with vouchers.

This is not a thems the rules post. But I just want to note that 99% of your post is not relevant to people less familiar with vouchers. They should be able to cope with the idea that you use one voucher for 2 people to book flights for 2 people. It's great that Qantas will bend the rules to help people out but I just don't see how that is needed to help people understand the basics of how to use something.

They work fine, if we remember that they are basically bookings without flights yet attached. I'm not sure why it is lazy that the vouchers can't do something that is not suppose to be done.

The whole way vouchers have been implemented is lazy. They shouldn't be bookings without flights attached, they should just be an alternate payment method like every other business does it.

In case you still don't understand what I mean; imagine how much simpler things would be if the payment form looked like this:

Now implement a system where a $ value can be put on the payment method selection, and if less than the total owed, repeat the screen at a lower amount with a notation that your original selection has been allocated a payment of the input $.

I think we need to be careful though. The NIH syndrome can be very powerful.

Absolutely. Then you could use as many vouchers as you wanted. Every time you click Apply the $ value would reduce, and if you don't have enough vouchers you could then flick over to the credit card tab to pay the balance.

The idea - to use vouchers purely as a payment method, like a credit card - has been suggested for years.

It would be nice - but Qantas has decided to keep them more like a flight refund voucher.

Still, they have made a lot of improvements to how you can use them over the years.

The point is clearly the issue you raised is not applicable to people who use vouchers within the rules. On the other hand it is useful for those that might want to ask for Qantas to bend the rules.

You might also like to try reading my post again. I said 99% of your post is not relevant to those less familiar with vouchers. Nothing at all about the number of people who might find the information useful. If you really thought the post should be deleted you could easily delete it. Instead you seem to have decided to have some sort of passive aggressive dig at me.

So they are lazy because they haven't implemented the system the way you think it should be done? That doesn't make the current system lazy IT. I'm sure IT have implemented the system that management requested and approved.

Personally, the current system is easy to use if you follow the rules. As an added bonus Qantas will even bend the rules to combine vouchers and also apparently use vouchers for Business direct bookings as well.

It's also worth remembering that my post wasn't comment about should or shouldn't. It was a simple statement that using gift vouchers is easy if we understanding how they have been implemented.

Personally, I like the advantages of the current arrangement.

No, they're lazy because they have quite clearly kludged the gift vouchers into the existing system rather than taking the time and expense to develop it properly.

Whilst the info may not be 100% valuable to 100% of the people 100% of the time, it is these little gems that add to the knowledge bank. If it isn't relevant to you that is fine, but someone might find it handy to know.

Since I never made any claim about how many people will find it valuable, I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make. I also didn't make any statement of the relevance to me.

A data point was added about combining vouchers. The excuse given was that people less familiar with vouchers with benefit. Combining vouchers is something the power users do, people who are less familiar with vouchers just need to follow the process as set out in the rules. I'm taking issue with the justification given to not say "thems the rules"*, not the data point itself.

Thanks for that, it is good information which I did not know. TBH, I was surprised they only charged $40 per PAX.

Would have it been possible to use the two vouchers separately online and booking as two one-way bookings for two pax (thereby avoiding even the $80)?
