Tiger announced their Perth flights today and there seem to be flights at about AUD$20 - They're available both ways, but the price excludes taxes.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

WHile the schedule is not fantastic, it could have been worse. Hopefully it will stay around longer than ValueAir did.

Looks like I'll have to split my travel between PER and DRW in the future.

Sounds interesting!

BTW, just checked fares on QF for Jul SIN-SYD-SIN, was 999 SGD incl taxes (= 828 AUD). They'll probably need to sharpen their pencils a bit more now.

Well Tiger is 49% owned by Singapore Airlines, so hopefully should have some financial backing. I'm sure there's a Lee family relative on the board, like everything else in Singapore.

SIngapore Airlines: 49%
Indigo Partners: 24%
Irelandia Investments: 16% (This is Tony Ryan and family. Ryan should be a familar name!)
Temasek: 11%

ValueAir stopped flying to Perth shortly after it merged with Jetstar (funny how that happened)

I found Tiger to be fine when I was in Thailand in July 2006....

I took advantage of a special they had to fly from coughket to Singapore for a $1 SIN + taxes...for my family of 5.

It was a launch sale to fly anyware on their network fora $1+ taex (they did not fly to Perth then).

It cost all up about $150 Aus for a family of 5...so very cheap international flying;) . Not so impressed was the guy sitting next to me chatting away saying how cheap the flight was...only to discover that he had paid about double what I had...which mind you was still cheap!!!!!!

I had flown my 5 over on QFF rewards with BA to Bangkok...and had return Singapore to MEL with rewards on QF.

I used a special on Asia Airways to fly Bangkok to Krabi for about $100 all up for the 5 of us.

I found both Tiger Airways and Asia Air to be very good...though basic. Both flights had new planes and friendly staff.

In Singapore Tiger Airways used the new purpose built Low Cost Airline Terminal which had the advantage of being small...we escaped very quickly...and the taxi rank was a 100m from customs....so walking was minimised..a great benefit when you have 3 childen and bags to manage.

For those of you interested in Tiger's finances I have attached a copy of their latest financial statements lodged with Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority of Singapore. Unfortuately file size was too big to upload the complete statements which have some interesting snippets (including Board members - sorry there's no Lee). Unfortunately too they are now 11 months old because Tiger resisted making the figures public for as long as possible because they are truly embarrassing.

As you will see, they had revenues of (SGD) $75 million, but costs of $112m for an operating loss of $37.5m. That's a margin of -50% which I believe to be a record amongst Low Cost Carriers. Tiger's accumulated losses since startup are $62m. So bambam2 that certainly shows some financial backing. Ozmark, I would take advantage of the low prices while you can, because either they will go broke or have to double their prices to make a profit longer term.

At least if you can get a cheap fare to SIN, there are a number of cheap options for flying around SE Asia.

I guess your definition of "cheap" and mine aren't quite the same.

Anything ex Oz isn't cheap. Some fares are just less expensive.

"Cheap" is a relative term, and my comment started 'if' which would tell you that I don't generally find much cheap ex-PER

Might be worth noting that Tiger have just introduced allocated seating for all their flights.

Flew SIN-DRW a few days ago, and the method of allocation was that the first to check-in got the last seat on the plane, built forward from there, etc, etc.

The flight I was on was only 60% full (according to one of the FA's), and most of the PAX were jammed into the back of the plane, like sardines, with lots of open seats up front. I kept my eyes open and settled into a vacant row towards the front. What a farce!

This new policy will be one of the reasons I won't be rushing to fly Tiger ever again (Ryanair now puts them to shame). Open seating is the way to go.

Happy to discuss the above further...

Open seating? Where everyone rushes to grab a seat once boarding is announced?

Yes much better and much more civilised!

Yes, but would you want seat 30C if you checked in first?

I certainly wouldn't.

Good luck to you.

Now Clifford, if 1C was given away checking in last you know where I would be in the ckeckin queue! ;)
