Yes, I should do that. Now, where's my paper form ............. ? mmmmm, I don't have one.

Might try phoning up for one. It might end up being quicker that way.
We just arrived home one day and there it was blowing in the wind on the front verandah. We were probably lucky as we often don't go through the front door for days at a time.

Last I heard phone queues were pretty long too. I'm happy to wait, I don't see any need to be quick on this, didn't they announce it doesn't have to be done until Sept 20th?

Yep, that was the case even before the census night crash.

Census deadline is Sept 23
However there really is no deadline. And might be a repeat of Aug 9 on Sept 23

If you miss Sept 23, some time will pass and then someone at ABS will either knock on your door hoping to help you complete the census, or there will be a letter directing you to complete it. After that if you are still recalcitrant they may be another visit or letter. Rinse and repeat.

The only way you can get fined is if a magistrate imposes it - meaning that as the wheels of justice turn ever so slowly you may have several months or longer.

The beauty of the paper census is that you can mail it in incomplete. Then wait several weeks for them to notice and send you back a letter directing you to complete it.

I predict that after the display by the ABS of patronising attitude that many will revert to the paper form and start playing games with the ABS.

The picture in post #108 sums up the feelings of many toward the ABS and many in Government who think they know better (repeated here)
Including Alex Hawke (ex small business minister and MP who was Ministerial portfolios included the ABS until he was dumped)

Not that I understand what he'd said above, however one would have to think that heads will roll in both ABS and IBM - plus IBM won't get too many contracts in the future...after this as well as the Qld Health Payroll debacle.

There was a CyberSecurity guy on The Project last night who was interrupted in the middle of a most technical but informative version as well...

It's quite scary that I recognise the English language used in that article but have no idea what he is talking about.

Maybe there are fewer staff in ABS but more money spent on external support to assist them to do it.
But the amount that was paid was woefully inadequate. As it has been noted, it would only have covered the salaries of 90 people working for a year. Not enough for the scope of the project.

I'll openly admit that I did not participate in this years' debacle and have not done so for the previous 3 either. In that time, I've moved states, gotten married, raised 2 kids, completed my tax each year and got refunds back from the ATO, voted umpteen times at all 3 levels of government, applied for a passport and even traveled to the US (okay, I did get a SSSS on my boarding pass leaving but that's probably just the US being paranoid...) without any drama at all and without any surprise letters from the ABS.

Methinks its all much ado about nothing...

(and the ABS openly admits they only target a 98% success rate which means that they're okay with over 180K households not doing it either each time)

Here is the relevant union's response to the PM's claim that heads will roll. Paragraph three provides some context.
ABS staff angry at Turnbull Government over Census debacle | Community and Public Sector Union

If anyone has their heads rolled from this affair, I'll be delighted to hear it. But, that would be a lucky bet.

No one is going to admit any responsibility whatsoever in this mess.

Of course, we have to have an inquiry on this. More money in the sinkhole. I wonder what the hostile Senators have to say about this whole shebang.
