Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It makes me wonder what both VA and QF have submitted on the confidential versions.

Reading through the Qantas response this morning, and thinking very much as an outsider looking in, I wonder if one of the primary drivers of the request is that they are expecting 9W to go belly up and want to shore up their Indian route options.

Perhaps supporting the rumors of QF SYD-CMB as well? Or a second MEL-CMB flight with UL?

Just wandering

The tone of the document and the location of the redacted text would suggest that.
Though, you could also say that with QF wanting to codeshare on CX HKG-ICN flights, they might be looking to dump the QF367/368 codeshares on OZ.

Taipei is listed on page 3, perhaps, the end of CI codeshares too?

Yawn approve it already :)

I honestly don't think this will get approved.

Virgin and the ACCC have made some fairly compelling arguments about why it shouldn't be. And the IASC has a history of not approving codeshares where it would result in airlines having an unreasonably high market share on the route, creating high barriers to entry to other airlines and/or pushing existing airlines out of the market.

Only half of it needs approval correct? The first phase didn’t require approval was my understanding... just this expansion?

Selfishly I would like to see QF code on a few more CX Asia destinations, not so fussed about the AU/HK

We in Cairns would like to see QF award flights flights to HKG on CX as its direct, its rare to see them anymore.

I booked a return trip on VA to HKG last night for $503 ($499 + $4 cc fee) - competition is tough ...

Well they have to do something to fill their planes VA is only at about 65% capacity on this route :(

Yes. I agree with the reasoning here.

QF can already code share. This application doesn't change that, so there must be a financial reason. In the long run this seems to be setting the passenger up for a disadvantage.

In respect of the QF contention that if not approved, it couldn't offer connections for its passengers to India, aren't the 'natural' connecting routes to India via either Singapore or Bangkok, not Hong Kong?

They were until Jet Airways collapsed...
