CATHAY to Codeshare on QANTAS Hong Kong Flights

Yes. I agree with the reasoning here.

QF can already code share. This application doesn't change that, so there must be a financial reason. In the long run this seems to be setting the passenger up for a disadvantage.

Agreed that this seems to read logically. They don't need to be able to sell QF127 as a CX coded flight in order for CX HKG-BOM to have a QF code.

Legally they may not, but CX might require such in order to agree to it on their side.

I wish QF had a daytime flight HKG-SYD like CX139. A codeshare would have been adequate substitute. Why is QF so averse to daytime flights?

I think because it requires an overnight to run SYD-HKG. They used to run it in the past but the curfew means it has to leave before 2200, which is awkward because you end up arriving in HKG between 0430-0500 which is before any of the public transport options from the airport open and not convenient for checking into hotels. Somewhat different for CX because they can use that to funnel connecting pax onward into Asia or elsewhere.

Since March 2019, QF already has an overnight SYD-HKG flight with QF117 departing SYD at 21:20 and arriving HKG at 5:00 +1 but the aircraft does not operate the return sector from HKG until 22:35...

I'm guessing that's because HKG won't give QF a gate to fly out of, to protect CX139's marketshare. Would also explain why VA doesn't have a daytime flight too.

HKG gates have little to do with it. The runways are at capacity, and the surrounding airspace isn't much better, during peak times. That's why they are building a 3rd runway and trying to sort out better ATC arrangements with nearby mainland airports.

Qantas does seem to favour early morning arrivals into SYD as they seem to think business travellers prefer this. (It also allows for better connections.) But as Qantas already has an overnight flight from HKG in QF128, I can only imagine QF118 is not a day flight due to slot constraints in Hong Kong.

CX has responded to the IASC draft proposal to deny the requested codeshare

Doubtful unfortunately QF / CX will win this one, although interesting timing for VA and VS to start squeaking about working together better on this route - you would think they would STFU until the QF and CX deal was officially shot down.... :D

My understanding is that technically QF and CA can still expand their intra Asia and intra AU codesharing without approval though, hopefully this part still goes ahead?

Looking to see how I could get to ASP from HKG.....
QF has almost nothing that will arrive in Oz to connect to the ASP flight schedules (23 hour layovers) when I price CX as a single ticket the pricing becomes "very strange" The best connection being HKG-MEL-ASP shows about 3.2K HKD to MEL (V class) but 17+K to ASP as the CX flight becomes straight Y class connecting to K class to Alice. One case where at least a code share would be "user friendly".
Any suggestions on how to convince Mrs WF that J* HKG-SIN-DRW (connecting to QF) is the best budgetary option?

(un)Happy wandering
Fred

So interestingly I’ve seen a couple more QF codes pop up on CX Metal out of HKG to other Asian destinations that weren’t there before... They didn’t need approval for these so perhaps they have quietly loaded them on?

Why was Tucker crossed out and Marlene written?:D

That is standard practice for politicians and is obviously spreading to anyone who is playing politics of any kind.
It is designed to appear friendly and informal.
As if the admin person who typed the letter put Ms Tucker but the signatory themselves replaced it with her first name.
