Re: Cancelling JASA

While I can understand some confusion when a new product is introduced, its really a very poor state of affairs that there is still a problem with changing/cancelling JASA's, get your act together please QFF, you are making enough money to train your staff!

The T&C's have changed a little with the mention of "(or refund fee)":
15.6 Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award - tickets cancellation & refunds
15.6.1 A refund of an Any Seat Award will only be made in accordance with the applicable Fare Conditions and these Terms and Conditions, and the following provisions:
(a) If a refund is requested prior to travel commencing, and the money paid to obtain the Any Seat Award is equal to or greater than the cancellation fee (or refund fee) specified in the Fare Conditions, and the original Any Seat Award booking was not made on jetstar.com, then the refund of the Any Seat Award will be made by re-crediting Points redeemed to the Member's account and refunding any money paid to the Member's Accepted Payment Card, less any applicable cancellation fee (or refund fee) set out in the Fare Conditions. ...
However, there is no "refund fee" set out in this Business Fare Condition.

On another issue how long for the refund of points/$ to arrive? It seems to be deteriorating.

  • 13th May:
I have cancelled 4 for various reasons, all were no issues with 7 dyas being the longest time it took for the points to come back into the account.
  • 7th July:
I have been getting them 3 weeks after they were cancelled, but in each case they were only after a call was made to the Platinum Desk.

Hi all, long-time reader here with my first question....
I'm wanting to cancel a JASA SIN/MEL/SYD in U on 22/9/11. It cost 103,111 points (no cash) which I thought was great on an A380.
The fare conditions said "Before departure. Full refund. Local service fees per person applies."
QF wanted me to pay $150.00SIN to cancel, which they changed to a 12,300pt penalty when I reminded them that there was no cash involved. I said I'd get back to them shortly.
Is there any way around this? "Local service fees apply" seems vague to me, especially as I couldn't find a mention of $150.00SIN penalty anywhere. If the consensus is that it is a valid penalty, I think I've got nothing to lose by giving a number of calls as cove and his son did.

The fare rules are here: Bookings - Fare Types - Business Rules

Here are the fees for SIN to Australia Bookings: Bookings - Fare Types - Singapore to Australia

There is a fee for "Business Saver" of SGD150, but assuming you are in "Business", they do not apply.

There is a "service fee[SUP]^^[/SUP]" but this is not indicated anywhere on those pages that I can see.

Fwiw, I made a booking ex SIN in January and was charged a "service fee" of SGD50.

Interesting I saw this for Singapore - Europe Bookings:
[SUP]^^[/SUP] 5,000 points penalty applies for Qantas Any Seat Awards.

Hi, I've just posted this on another thread with the same title, sorry...

Did you print out the fare conditions for your flight when you were booking it? That's what QF should be referring back to. If there was a $150SGD fee for canceling then that's that but if there wasn't and you're sure of it then you'll just have to keep insisting that they check the fare conditions for the underlying cash seat. The fact that it's taken from the U inventory is irrelevant, it's an ASA and the T&C's state that the fare conditions of the underlying cash fare that apply.

I haven't seen good price JASA's offered in the 'business saver' column, it's usually full business that they come under but serfty might prove me wrong

It's really important to check/print your fare conditions before finalising the bookings. I print to a .pdf.

The cheaper xASA's can appear in almost any column; at the top of that column is gnerally a hot link to the fare conditions.

Once ticketed, if you bring up your booking online, quite often the fare conditions are accessible with a hot link for each segment.

e.g. :

Fare
Conditions
Business

I'm seeing good JASA fares MEL-SIN return for "Business Saver". Sometimes for 1/4 of the points (or less) needed for "Business".

I booked one for 120,000 points + $600.00 (MEL-SYD-SIN-SYD-MEL) and got seat 1K (on the 747 SYD-SIN-SYD) too! So it cost about the same as a Classic Award.

But the cancellation conditions for "Business Saver" on the screen clearly says

  • Before departure:
    • A cancellation fee of A$341 per person applies.

My First Saver LHR-MEL has the following

  • Before and After departure:
    • No refund.
So does the cancellation fee of A$341 mean that you still get a refund on points?

There are different conditions depending on the destination:

Asia: http://www.qantas.com.au/regions/amadeus/minirules/AUASFIRLEI_SUMMARY/index.html
North America: http://www.qantas.com.au/regions/amadeus/minirules/AUUSBUSLEI_SUMMARY/index.html
Europe: http://www.qantas.com.au/regions/amadeus/minirules/AUEUBUSLEI_SUMMARY/index.html

Maybe these are new?

For First Leisure to Europe:
    • Before and after departure:
      • No refund.

For Asia at least, there is the following:

Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award: If this is a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award and the money paid (if any) for the booking is less than the cancellation fee, or the itinerary has been partially flown, then a proportion of the money and points originally used to obtain the award will be refunded to the applicable Member. The proportion refunded will be the difference between the original ticket value (or remaining ticket value if the itinerary is partially flown) as allocated by Qantas and the cancellation fee, as a proportion of the original ticket value.

... refunds as allocated by Qantas??

Travelled on a JASA to SIN last month - booked it last June (2010) it too had the $341 penalty in the rules.

Yesterday I cancelled a JASA MEL-LAX, refund of all point and $$. (Not recredited as yet - they indicated two weeks)

The rules for this booking were: (Bookings - Fare Types)

Cancellation (including no show)
  • Before departure
    • Fully refundable
  • After departure
    • The refund will be the difference (if any) between the fare paid and the applicable fare for the journey travelled, less 11%.
  • Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award: If this is a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award and the itinerary has been partially flown, then a proportion of the money and points originally used to obtain the award will be refunded to the applicable Member. The proportion refunded will be the remaining ticket value as allocated by Qantas as a proportion of the original ticket value.
  • This fare may be used as credit towards the payment of any higher fare from the point of origin, provided the new fare conditions are met. If the new fare is cancelled the original fare cancelltion conditions will apply. This credit must be used within 12 months of the original tickets date of issue.
  • Any refund or credit is the Australian dollar price.
  • Note: If this fare is combined with another fare the most restrictive cancellation conditions apply.

sorry to re-open an old thread but have a need to cancel a JASA BNE-MEL-LAX

rang the premium desk this evening and was told no issues with cancelling but there would be a 5k mile fee - i told the operator that i didn't think that was right - "oh yes sir that definitely applies" - my t&c's are below - i don't see any reference to any fees let alone a random number of points as a penalty...

should i just call back and hope for a different operator?

Call back and if you get the same story, tell them to check the fare rules. They override anything in these cases. "Fully Refundable" means nothing else.

(Best to do when the "Premium Desk" is operating - i.e. Business hours, Mo-Fri, 9:30-16:30 and Saturday mornings)

Thanks Serfty ill try again tomorrow!

I cancelled one this morning.
My fare conditions did include a 5000 point cancellation fee (which I was quite willing to pay) but in the event it wasn’t mentioned or charged.
All points were returned within a couple of minutes.

An old thread but new Q. I cancelled a JASA yesterday over the phone, and was told I would get all my points and cash component back...BUT it could take 6-8 weeks:shock:. When I log into my QF account now, I can still see the booking there. Is this the normal process?

It takes a little while to filter through, and normally it needs to be chased at the two week mark.

Because I'm an impatient bugger, I rang the premium desk just then, who in turn rang ticketing and the awards desk; may get the cash and points back in the next 24 hours...:p Edit: And 30 minutes after the call, the points are now back in my account!! Nice one Qantas:cool:

An options question!!

I'm looking to book a JASA for 2 pax. There is a chance that I may have to cancel for one of them prior to departure. Looking at some dummy bookings, this won't be a problem points-wise - fully refundable - however my question relates to the remaining passenger:

1) What happens if I book both passengers on the same ticket? Presumably, a "rebooking fee" for the remaining passenger comes into play
2) Am I better-off booking this as two separate tickets (assuming availability at booking time) to give me greater flexibility to cancel the one passenger?

Regards,

BD

You may also be able to book as one, and split the booking later if needed. I believe it can be done!
